Saw some members throwing the XTC out. So I had to contribute because to me XTC is the only band that hold's a candle to AC.
To my ears the ending of this song is nearly the same as the end of ODDSAC but crazier.

I watched these a lot as a kid. Early AC always reminded me of them

not much else about the band, but the verses here sound a whole lot like avey's songwriting, that sort of shifty thing where phrases don't end quite right. the meter helps of course

Nice! They’re a band mentioned in the PP liner notes, I guess I don’t know it half as well as I thought. Vinyl Me also put that song in their mix dedicated to the PP influencers. I remember it stuck out as particularly good.
Zeek Sheck... is giving me big time early AC/ODDSAC vibes.
It’s blowing me away

Yeah Geo played "Jerusalem" by him on an O'Brien System episode.
Avey's also a fan, he put Pass the Distance reissue on his 2001 favorites list when he was at Other Music

Yeah those lists are a goldmine just like their mixes n stuff. Love that Panda put Coldplay lol
Also sweet to see Vespertine on there, not that I wouldn't expect them to like Bjork I guess. The ending of "Undo" with the harp always reminds me of Loch Raven

i know someone else posted something by the same artist and that geo had a song by him in his chz mix but....
total person pitch vibes. or at least something panda would have sampled. groovy percussion, multiple sections, breezy vocals... been playing this on loop for the past day.

those opening notes have to be the inspiration for Beck's "Wow", if it's not a direct sample

The interplay of the two vocal parts on this is very AC.

May be out of the loop here but has anybody else noticed this track is pretty damn close to Bees? Like as in it almost pretty much is?

Yeah I can see some similarities, Bees still seems fairly different from that but it's got similar bits in the melody

yeah that song is straight up Animal Collective, the way he sings and the fx on his voice sounds exactly like Avey. Had to be an inspiration

Yeah that's pretty much exactly like some of the vocals on ODDSAC and Down There.
Here's "Space Lion", which reminds me a lot of Animal Collective near the middle. (Start at 2:15)

Only heard ten minutes but that was good. Reminded me of Polmo Polpo album "Like Hearts Swelling". Sky Histoire was sampled in live Guys Eyes.

saw deakin at the "this is not this heat" show in brooklyn a few weeks ago and made me think about their music in context with anco.
feel like the use of noise/silence in this one is reminiscent of native belle/hey light

Vision Songs vol 1, it’s my current obsession. Whole album is full of songs that are just as great as that one

bobby brown has been on some AC-related mixes but i've never heard him don't think. the band gets a shoutout in the copy for LITA's vinyl reissue of this album calling it “a true original, he has been a huge influence on many of us that play music.” bunch of homemade instruments
deakin vibes? maybe avey

Great contribution to the thread! Yeah I think they mentioned an album of his at the end of this interview (annoyingly can't scrub in the archive).
https://web.archive.org/web/20071013173 ... .php?id=14
Feels more in deak territory but def some avey in there too.

now that this thing is out for a while, I realized that it borders on ripping off the bass sounds from painting with a lot (e.g. on "what now?", probably due to the op-1), the mangled instrumentation from grim reaper (e.g. "dungeon crawlers") and is filled with auto-tuned vocals just like buoys.
