I'm just gonna post that here cuz it was so fucking sweet and also just generally feels related to the tone of this album and the creative stage avey is at. such a generous response to that question <3

I have some pretty heavy general anxiety and depression that keeps me from doing things I love. Sometimes when I listen to your music it makes me imagine what it would be like to let go of that anxiety and just live freely and just kind of explode and shine. Do you have any advice for someone who's always stuck in their head, and would like to create music but is so extremely judgmental of themselves that they can't seem to start to write songs? When songs like Street Flash already exist, why even try" is kind of my sentiment. , I thank you.

The reality is I'm just like you and So is Noah and so is Brian and So is Josh. I can't tell you the number of times I've gone to sleep after a show thinking "I'm shit, I'm no good why should i even do this anymore". From your perspective You may say "yeah right dude whatever". But the truth is that those kind of struggles are real. Sometimes even collectively we don't realize how much anxiety and stress we are holding onto. For me it helps to breath and just to be aware of that stuff and realize you actually can let it go. You have something worth sharing you jut have to figure out how to get it out there. There really is nothing at stake. It can't hurt you to try. I've done what I've done cause i just worked at it for years and didn't stop but i still have doubts. I still hear records and think damn ill never make anything that good. But it shouldn't stop you from expressing yourself. I hope this helps. I think it is crucial of finding ways to get out of your head. The stuff i write about i really believe in. I do want to be like water and reflect everything around me. To me that means getting out of my head and just existing and experiencing life as it really is.

Only 5 reviews so far though :/

its just a stupid fan theory and yet ...

(from the ama)

i think growing up together helped. Even as kids we made stuff together or were involved in learning about art and making art together. So i think it's just developed over time. Now a days for AC or my own stuff ill usually have an idea then just present it to her and she'll kind of go from there and turn it into something real.

yes!! I can def imagine Bradford singing it. Can't get enough of this song

There are other moments that are Deerhunter/Atlas Sound-like that some ppl mentioned like the whole last part of Goodside. Totally agree there are so many instantly iconic moments on the album

I swear I've heard the noise at the beginning of Chilly Blue somewhere before. I can't check rn but maybe he used it in a transition at the Chicago 2017 show? That's the boot I've heard the most

My most fond recording of all the Euc shows was The Chapel, 10/12/17. I listen to this shit like an actual record, and in my mind, it truly took the cake for some reason. Just something about that performance is so stitched together in a perfect sense. At the beginning of Saturdays he introduces the Chilly Blue sample and leads it into the Saturdays sample. I'm sure it's floating around here and there in the performances to come, but I hope that helps jetzgee :)

what's the goodside has to be my favorite song in recent memory. i was originally expecting this album to be a lot more gritty like the mothlight boot but the dreamy vibe that it became is really nice.

I noticed some similarities too. The one the struck me is the track Taken Boy and Deerhunter's Revival. Not complaining, Taken Boy is def it's own song and I'm a fan of both Avey + projects and Bradford + projects. It'd be sweet to see them do a collab, especially after that improv tease at that Deerhunter show.

A Bradford-Avey collab is the stuff of dreams for me (evidently). Love that they seem like such different people (at least interpersonally) but both have so much respect for each other and the DH and AC boys seem to have a mad friendship.

And yeah What's The Goodside? is truly an incredible song that I can't get enough of. Doubt it'll ever pip Laughing Hiero for me but gee it's up there. Hearing a song that's so good that you get excited to listen to whenever you get a chance to put your earbuds in is something that doesn't come around (for me at least) all that often.

This is far from Avey Tare at his most outgoing—it’s miles away from the boisterous “Chores,” say—but the melodies are more direct than they were on Eucalyptus, even when the underlying chords scrape at oblique angles.

Pitchfork review is bs. 7.0

Don't care for Pfork these days but was quietly hoping (not expecting) a cheeky 8.5 or so for this one cause I want everyone to be as amped about it as I am.

yall who gives a fuck about pitchfork rating or review it literally doesn't matter

Avey is an established artist at this point, it's not like he's starving for promo or something

I know we all love this music and we want it to get properly recognized but pitchfork is way way waaay less important than you think it is. just ignore the review and enjoy the album there's no reason why you need to pay attention to it

also when I paid attention to pitchfork rating (8 years ago or something), a 7 would definitly be a require listen for me.

^yeah it's a good rating! People think anything less than an 8 is a failing grade lol

It would be more clear if they used a 5-star rating scale instead, which would make this album get 3&1/2 stars, not bad at all

Everyone's entitled to their opinion and having a better understanding of AC and Avey Tare definitely gives the album an enhanced quality to that of the casual listener. But Pitchfork are still dummies for not doing adequate research. Saying Avey doesn't sound as boisterous as he did on Chores is mindblowing.

The album is quite beautiful but in an almost too conventional way, to me. I don't get really excited by it, apart from some moments or elements like Nostalgia in Lemonade, What's the goodside?'s last part or K.C. Yours.

I like the fact that it's more balanced than Eucalyptus though, but I can't find anything as complex, beautiful and rich as Melody Unfair, Ms. Secret or Season High. I have dreamt to hear an entire album full of songs like that... The loose structures of those songs were what made it more alive, to me. Cows' songs are kind of static in comparison. For the same reasons, I also prefer some tracks of Tangerine Reef (Palythoa, Inspector Gadget, Buxom, Best of Times...)

My brother, who hasn’t paid much attention to AC or AC-related projects since MPP, loves Cows, which basically confirms my suspicion that this is the best AC record since Down There. If this isn’t “the magic” I don’t know what is!

Just noticed Avey hums the same melody as the bass line under the “let em know I’ll follow with ya” part in “Mayan,” but it’s so buried in the mix you can barely discern it. Avey loves to bury beautiful stuff.
