Really impressed with the beats all over the album - great sequencing and timbre. Except for KC Yours! I'm kinda unconvinced by that song in general at the moment. I'm not vibing with the up beat click. Though I do really like the synth that sounds like the groaning hill of a ship.

Bass like others have said is very strong overall but this time I'll single out Mayan in the second half with that synth bass part. The 8th note pattern reminds me of the more annoying moments from ETSH

I'll try to stop talking gripes from now on sorry

I almost can't believe we got the singles we did. this whole album bangs. i never listened to the boots so going in with no expectations this time (unlike other times) felt really refreshing.

lmao one side of the sleeve that my 10" came in completely separated from itself when i was putting it back in after listening to it for the first time....record fell on the floor and everything....seems like the glue or whatever is holding it together is not too strong

Mine is the exact same way. Must be an issue at the plant. I'll glue it myself.

Speaking of the 10" tho, does anyone have a good picture of it to use for album art? I don't have mine with me at the moment.

I was so ready for What's the Goodside to jam right into Doctor No/Baby's Not Home

god I adore this album but damn I wish doctor no survived, what a total jam. the eyes/disc one/doctor no jam was the sickest part of the OG mothlight set
Someone should ask him about those cuts on the upcoming AMA

Had some demoitis on KC Yours at first, but now I'm totally on board, really hope they play it on this tour, it's gonna be wild with extra guitar and drums.

Was too used to Goodside landing in the middle of the live sets to even consider it an opener but damn if it doesn't fit perfectly.

i think i like the album all equally
but for some reason
the bonus tracks stick out for me
like i like them just as much
if not more so than the album
if were gonna play this game
like the bonus songs don't
sound any more different
than the album songs to me
but i also cant put my finger on it
either or

loving this album. so tight, focused and cohesive. there's an essay to be written about how the boys' writing concerning nature has changed from something naive & childlike to a more mournful tone heard on Seal Eyeing, Tangerine and this release. The idea that we as a species are "getting old now" is so interesting and spooky. Very special to hear these modern anxieties filtered through Avey weirdness.

underrated moment: In Taken Boy, the descending melody that appears at 1:40 and never reappears

can someone pls PM me the b-sides?

One tiny tiny detail I love is the quiet "hey" you hear in Remember Mayan right before the guitar comes in. Reminds me of all the hidden little voices and sounds in Sung Tongs.

just listened first time, holy shit so good

agree with ppl who were saying it feels really cohesive

I cant believe he released both Eucalyptus and this within just a couple years. so different but both are so Avey and I really love both of them for different reasons

early favs are Goodside, Lemonade, Saturdays, Our Little Chapter and Horse. I love how Eyes and Mayan turned out. somehow I think Tipped in Hugs actually might be my most fav out of all the songs even though I think the album itself is amazing. that song is fucking perfect

the vocal melody on Tipped in Hugs makes it an instant classic, I'm already obsessed with it

that track by track breakdown is so good too. someone mentioned how you can contrast it with Panda's annotations on Buoys, I love that

Yeah I finally just listened to the 10" for the first time and man I can't fathom any of the negative reactions to Tipped in Hugs, it rules. That little instrumental part after the second chorus is amazing, all those strange moaning voices. And the way he says no KEEEEEeeey in the chorus haha.

I’m spending more time with the shorter songs. At first I was silly and overlooked them, but now I feel they do some nice heavy lifting for the middle section of the album.
And I can’t help but think Chilly Blue sounds like a lost sci-fi tune from Campfire Songs.

Its(the album) lusher than a muffa. I was hoping for some more drum machines but maybe a few of those songs will make a post album ep or something. Im sure ill love it after more listens. I would need 3 more stomachs to digest it on first listen

Interesting that this release has a higher metacritic score than any other avey or panda solo release, and any other animal collective release except for MPP

Dog Says Goodbye is ok, kinda feel like it would benefit from having less percussion, that kick loop feels kinda monotonous after awhile imo. Maybe it will grow on me.

the melody of the first two lines really reminds me of "Jimmy Neutron". I wonder if it possibly transformed into Tipped in Hugs. Hopefully not cause I love the energy of that live clip

gotta believe that the boys zoning into the spirit of Sung Tongs was a major inspirational factor for both Panda & Avey releases this year... some of the background vocals, percussive elements on the new AV joint feel like direct throwbacks to the Tongs, and Panda of course going back to the acoustic gtr and using the same Tongs tunings for Buoys can be directly correlated to revisiting Sung Tongs

i like thinking about Cow(s)Buoys as a 2xLP AC release double trouble, ala OutKast, as jfw7 had noted earlier, Speakerbuoys/The Cows Below...

I can tell you i wrote our little chapter while i was also writing Defeat and the other songs we played at the music box which i play juno on. We will be working on some of that stuff with noah now but i have no info beyond that.

doesn't quite make much sense with the actual events of the movie but i'm reminded of the images of the final scene in hereditary during the 'what a thing to become king' bits in mayan for whatever reason.....

love love love this album...our lil chapter still needs to grow on me but otherwise every track is fire
