loving this album!

to me eucalyptus was like his life of pablo, but this one is more consistent and what a great production! who made this by the way?

Dave recorded it himself

first listen didn't blow me away like the first listens to Eucalyptus and Buoys did, but all of the songs are solid and I'm excited to go back for more. goodside and lemonade turned out great

some thoughts:
i really like nostalgia in lemonade, like way more than all the boots. k.c. yours is for sure my favorite, i still find myself singing the "hey old man..." chorus though, that'll take some getting used to! same with the "why's it slooooow" part of goodside. this does feel really cohesive and nice to me, isn't a single track i don't love!
also this is just high hopes, but imagine a 7" with midnight special b/w red light water show... that'd be juicy...

I'd typed up an extensive track by track review of my first impressions, wasn't logged-in apparently, and lost it all. I'll just say this: I love this record. Every song is a revelation. It's been a LONG winter and, as someone else already said, this is some inspirational stuff. There is a heaviness to this record and yet a hopefulness that is hard to verbalize. This sounds like Avey's most straight-forward songwriting to date, and yet it's something totally new and exciting. "Chilly Blue" is the spiritual sequel to "Baleen Sample" and is the hinge around which the entire record revolves. Haunting. "Saturdays" is the clear heart of the record. The emotional center. "K.C. Yours" feels, to me, like classic Avey. Something only Dave could pull off. The Vashti Bunyan-like kid's melody ending about "consorts" and "airplanes" might be my favorite part of the record. "Our Little Chapter" might be the most beautiful thing he's ever done. "Eyes," "Mayan," sheesh. Down There has been my favorite Dave-related project but this might have a shot at the throne. 10/10. Yes!!!

Me and the Bubble is really brilliant, best build up since A Sender. The gradual shift in tone and emotion is so great and harmonically there's some real old school AC wizardry going on. Once the 'wake up to a new song' melody kicks in, I was virtually punching a hole through the roof of my car. The line 'are you catching all your sunsets?' hit me right in the gut because I'm spending too much time working, not enough time with my wife and I'm knackered when I get home and my cats are both sick. I need to spend more time with them all, that's why I'm here, not to slog away to basically keep my desk clear. This song really hit me like a truck.

Loving this thing man. This may sound weird but I feel blessed to be able to name my favourite musician of all time (lot of people can't) and that man is Dave. He should have Bowie or Dylan status but having him as a secret is fine too.
Spiritual successor gets thrown around a lot but this really feels like Down There, but like if it wasn't recorded in a swamp at night and was instead recorded just before sunrise around a more lucid but still somewhat dank pond (or something haha). The Eucalyptus influence is obvious.

Can't wait to hear what the Deak and Jermy do with these songs live. In a weird way, I get Slasher Flicks feels from this.

I can't stop singing a Mr. Fingers variation over Lemonade. Similar progression (the main synth also has a Lucky 1 thing going on)

I get slasher flicks heavy vibes too- jelly of those who get to see this live. What’s the Goodside opening chord could be same chord that opens Euc?
& Lemonade would sound great on same album as Come & Goes.... new AC should be solid

yeah this reminds me a lot more of Down There and Slasher Flicks too. Eucalyptus had a minimal, intentional, and crisp production where you could pinpoint every detail, whereas the others and this one sound murky and more free-flowing. also his vocal style is very reminiscent of Slasher Flicks

got my vinyl copy today! unfortunately, domino seem to have cheaped out on the outer sleeve of the record. it's pretty flimsy and mine came with a split in the top from travel i guess. sucks because normally they always have really high quality outer sleeves since they're so expensive, i guess we got a 10" with this one though. the vinyl is 180g and sounds perfect at least.

what's the goodside is soooo good.
