saturdays is beautiful. so excited for this album

I can't help but think of comparing both buoys and saturdays (and probably the rest of the album) to their respective earliest music. buoys feels to me a bit like noah revisiting his earliest approach to music, what we hear on his self-titled, but with everything he's learned about songwriting and production under his belt. saturdays is the most i've been reminded in years that avey is the same person who made spirit they're gone. the wistful quick guitar strumming, shuffling beat, melodies that occupy that bizarrely beautiful liminal space that his songwriting has always come back to.

My 2 favorite things about saturdays:
1. the bass. its so good!! perfectly underscores the song, it's what it needed. reminds me a ton of spirit theyre gone too
2. after the first chorus, after the vague section, when the beat fades back in... it's beautiful. there's something about the way it fades back in that's really hard to focus on, like one moment its absent and the next its there and returning the song to its driving energy. beautifully done

Great post, you brought a good few things to the surface that I hadn't quite realised but which I totally agree on now you've verbalised them. The point about the second half is spot on, I can't work out exactly what it is but it always makes me get back into the song pretty hard, almost like I missed it and didn't expect it to come back! Something strange like that, anyway. I don't think the breakdown section is especially interesting by itself but as part of the whole, it certainly fulfils its purpose. You've also prompted me to go back to Panda Bear. Cheers.

Still kinda bitter he cornpilled his last solo Seattle show, but I will forgive him if this one happens. Like the saying goes, don't count your cows until they're on the pond.

Chilly Blue might be Derriere with all that talk of "frosted air."
K.C. Yours might be Enjoy the Change considering it opens side B and he began most of the 2017 shows with it.

I'm guessing that Tipped in Hugs is Jimmy Neutron and Our Little Chapter is Red Light Water Show. Still not sure about Dog Says Goodbye...

I actually got confirmation yesterday/the day before from Avery as well! maybe one of my fav interactions ever. I literally just sent him the chorus of midnight special with me "type singing" it like (my heaaaarrrrtt is open to ittt nowww) and I sat on that and then a few moments later he actually responded with the prayer emoji saying it won't be on the record but will be recorded and released! so amazing. also, he as well mentioned that kc yours was the first song from elsewhere since I told him that's where I heard most of the new songs, which means kc yours is derriere!!!!

very glad that'll be on it, that's maybe my fav of the live stuff

:negative:

Yes... Avey hasn’t made me feel this way since before centipede. Eucalyptus was good but felt so much like “modern adult” Avey wrote it. Saturdays feels like he’s a young boy who still believes in magic

I probably won't have the money by the time it's sold out :/, but at least I got to catch him on the last tour. After hearing Saturdays playing those Eucalyptus he played on that tour make more sense. I kinda thought he was shoe-horning those in to throw a bone to fans.

Def get the spirit vibes on it. Excited.

ya thats great^

Saturdays continues to grow, one of those songs that just needs to exist, so its good it fully does now. has an amazing pulse to it.. the quiet storm of the bass and that beautiful feels-era-y shuffle. don't miss the slightly different melody he did for the wordless vocal parts live after just a couple days.. this shit is so good.. that dark and rich guitar sound, favorite Avery guitar ive heard in a bit, like a softer version of his slasher flicks stuff, but like this smooths out the scrappier garage psyche thing that slasher was kinda about.

it seems inevitable this one could outdo slasher, euc AND down there for me?? this kind of sound and mayan are like my favorite iteration of Dave. also sweet knowing I def haven't heard at least half this thing since I don't know moth light.

also, like what if the 10'' is just Defeat? but nah, all of mbv set should probably go together..

The bass on Saturdays kinda reminds me of a cow moo-ing. Wonder if thats the inspiration? Such vivid imagery comes to mind with Cows on Hourglass Pond.

He should do a show at the Hourglass Pond in Ohio.Wonder if thats where the name is from? But there might be other ones as well.

man, what fun catching up on this thread, thanks all for being part of the steam engine.

I'm really, really hype for this album. I've always leaned more towards Panda's solo output, so 2k19 is really the year of Bouys but when the Cows hypetrain took off - in tandem with the entire state of Michigan shutting down because of the literal cold - I got all the way on. Euc kinda still doesn't get me, I don't hate it, and I do like it, but it just doesn't connect the way other AC stuff does. Slasher Flicks was 1000% my shit - got to see that outfit a bunch of times during their year, and I listen to the album all the time. "Down There" I'll pull out every here and there, but for whatever reason, solo Avey just doesn't bristle my britches.

that being said, I'm all in on Saturdays. Not sure what sets it apart from the other stuff. Also not sure if I want to dive into boots and really devour all the stuff y'all are rapturously praising - your excitement makes me want to seek it out. IDK, I might, I might not. Gonna scoop up AV tickets for Detroit and hope to see some friendly faces. good vibes and good tunes all around. I will probably stay on av's shit until bouys next friday, and then who knows.,

I will forever be jealous that you got to see Slasher Flicks live. Def my fav Avey solo(ish) output.

I'd say that at this point, hold off on the boots for another couple weeks and check out the album cuts first and then go back to the live "demos." Could make for a more interesting first listen.

woooahhhh.. okay, i have a loose concept here.
seeing as it's "Dog says goodbye"..
What if.. WHAT IF.. it just is Defeat? What if it's like a demo?
There are some lyrics of a pupper inside of Defeat, but that'd be a bit not sweet if the not suite was our B-Side 10" B-Side.. Just an idea.
Overall, just wanna throw out that Saturdays is stuck in my noggin way more than Kokomo has ever tried to do so. This record version has been killing me, and now i'm looking into reel-to-reels to invest in, or a cassette recorder for my next big thing i've been working on. seems like the inspiration drawn so far from this all has been insane to me.

Also want to add that dave's tetra-waves are always peak, because of all that breathing he does probably. such a good dude. this song slays, and Cows is already proving to be one the most top tier Dave records. This'll surely go down down down in history.
i love you all.
also, for sure exactly like rebecca black.

only thing is i just googled 10" record length and apparently each side can hold approximately 9 minutes or 12 minutes (depending on if they're cut at 45 rpm or 33.3 rpm) and Defeat clocks in at 15+ minutes

I gotta say the thing I'm stoked on the most for this and buoys is how they both ditched the production styles that has plagued the post MPP stuff. Way more stripped down, frick yeah!

While I wouldn't describe anything "plaguing" production since MPP, I do agree that they've definitely been focusing on a direction and I'm eager for no reason other than to have variety to see the guys head in a different direction.

I do think the true king of gondor, aka deakin, really is hitting the hottest possible sounds at the moment. I saw dude this past fall and couldn't believe how good even the most admittedly raw tracks he was demoing were. Like Deak straight up said at the beginning of the show " I feel like shit, I haven't slept in eleven years, fuck I'm like hallucinating" (approximately) and still managed to produce the most captivating 40 minutes of live music I've ever seen.

I think (for me) Cows is gonna be the Avey Tarennisanse (for me - I wasn't nuts about Euc, but did love the remix EP go figure) and I think (and by think I mean I know because I was a piece of :goatse: and listened to the thanksgiving weekend bootleg, and because I was not a piece of shit and saw the tour last spring) Bouys is going to somehow defeat Tomboy for my all time fav panda sounds. :pwn:

This is all to say I think we might be arriving at an epic, new-but-also-return-to-roots Animal Collective line up that is creatively expanded to their fullest capacity, each at the peak of their creative abilities, coming back together (as various fellas have said in various interviews) to work on the most perfect version of what an Animal Collective record can be.

To be more specific to AT, I think that what's so promising about Saturdays is how it sounds like the perfect child of Slasher Flix sounds (which on most days I regard even higher than my all time favorite AnCo stuff), the vibez of Down There and the expressiveness of Euc. I really think Cows is going to slap, and I'm literally dying to hear it. I get married the week before it comes out and low key I can't decide what I'm more excited about :shh:

Spoiler: show
yes I can I love my wife-to-be very deeply even tho she is an AnCo hater

Bummed I didn't go see him when he was opening for Gang Gang Dance. He was playing new songs? Just revisited Sleep Cycle and damn it is so fantastic! Feel like that album was really slept on by a lot of non die hard AC folks :downsrim:

Would kill for a vinyl releaseeeee
