I heard that it's more of a "lying in the grass" in a predatory way. like a tiger or some other cool animal waiting in the grass, ready to pounce. the song does sound pretty sinister too, or violent or something.
pandas songwriting is pretty on point this era (match select, pounds of bairro, refurbishing, SPILLING GUTS) idk where the hate coming from 2bh. and too all the people who nitpick the "hockey" vocal style of this era, my sincere displeasure goes out to u

Man I just have to say, Painting With is not my favorite AC album by any means, but this is the first era that I've been a fan enough for it to really matter, and I feel like this era will always hold a special place in my heart. The excitement I had when I heard they were back and the confusion I had at hearing Floridada for the first time and feeling that weird sense of wonder felt like discovering the band all over again. And when I saw them live I got to see them with the same people I got stoked out with and split headphones with to listen to Floridada with however many months ago and it was beautiful. Anyways, long, sorta pointless rant, but I just wanted to express the reason I love this album in such a special way and I also want to thank everyone on this board for being so friendly. I left using mu because it was all negative vibes all the time and I actually feel like this is a meaningful place to discuss the music I enjoy

Baby Day is a three hour drone piece comprised of the sound of 30,000 new infants brought kicking and screaming into the world

I wonder how much having children influenced this record?
It has such a child like playful vibe on it. The tones have a plasticity to it that reminds me of bold primary colors and Fisher Price toys.

I actually didnt listen to this album at all until i was on my way to see them this past week and now having gotten into it, i can say that even though its not as grand as an album like strawberry jam, it definitely is still enjoyable to me. i keep finding myself listening to hocus pocus, bagels in kiev, golden gal, and recycling a lot when im not listening to the full album.

Painting With is such a great album to listen to when you're on a walk. Preferably in good weather. But man, such a fantastic album to have in your ears.

I still really love this album a lot. Just maybe slightly less than most of their other material. But I still play it all the time. Pretty much all the Avey songs plus Spilling Guts and Recycling are amazing. The rest of the Panda songs are almost as good when I'm in the right mood.

really feel like if u combine this with Slasher Flix and the Greaper and cut out all the duds on every one (not really on the grim reaper for me tho) you'd get an amazing album. songwriting to me sounds pretty similar across all three album its just spread a lil thin. i hate golden gal. put little fang in that spot yo

I'll second that. I live in Florida and this album, with the windows down, makes rush hour traffic not so bad.
Definitely one for the summer.

Yeah this album has a very very Florida aesthetic, I also live in the Dada.

i'll stand by my golden gal comment! i dig the message and i thought the song was gonna be awesome based on the amazon sample, but as soon as the chorus hits i lose a lot of interest. hate's too strong of a word tho. more like just annoyed. but also i don't want to make any grand sweeping claims about the quality of the track - it's just a bit grating at times i guess?

My roommate says he doesn't like Golden Gal because he thinks it sounds like it could be a song from high school musical or something lol. And I kinda see what he means, something about how enthusiastic Avey sounds in the chorus, I can see how that could be off-putting. I love it tho

Things I don't like golden gal: I find the hook to be too long and complicated, I don't like how separate the two halves are, and I think it's too shouty for how it's paced. Still a good song but the low point of the album to me.

i still think golden gal would have fit into chz era really well if the instrumentation was busier and the drums were harder
