the stereogum article on this includes this part:

In a press release, Lennox explains, “The last three records felt like a chapter to me, and this feels like the beginning of something new.” It’s true. The hallucinogenic Pet Sounds pocket symphonies that have defined his best-loved solo work are nowhere to be found, and I don’t mind one bit.

pretty interesting. wonder if we can find the full press release anywhere?

edit: found it here http://www.dominorecordco.com/uk/news/0 ... bum-buoys/

another interesting tidbit:

Alongside Santos, Buoys also features collaborators in Chilean DJ/vocalist Lizz and Portuguese musician Dino D'Santiago, both artists who came to Lennox via Santos’ recent trap and reggaeton production work; the former contributes arrangements throughout the album including “Dolphin,” and both lend their vocals to “Inner Monologue."

^yeah sounds so much like it! Which is great

It is cool to hear that he sees this as something new and fresh compared to his last 3 albums, I really like hearing him in this stripped-back mode. A Day with the Homies was similar in that way too, very minimal, although based off Dolphin it seems like this album will sound different from Homies overall

WOW! The production on "Dolphin" is sublime! It sounds so crisp and clear, and very different than his recent albums! I don't mean to be a hater, but I was not a fan of Sonic's work on Tomboy and Grim Reaper (though his production on Beach House's 7, I loved). REALLY glad Panda reunited with Rusty for this one. Can't wait to hear "Token"!

What a beautiful song. It makes me quiet and reflective.
It sounds so fleeting, like a song carried on a sea breeze and disappearing seconds later. His quiet falsetto is just beautiful. It makes me feel teary. What an exciting new chapter for Noah. He sounds so confident with his voice front and center, so bare. I just feel so happy today. My wife and I played this right after waking up to a beautiful sunny fall morning, which felt like the perfect time to hear it.

My favorite moment: "Comparison to youUUUUUUuuuu......"

I thought exactly the same. Like a mashup remix of Prospect Hummer and SOPHIE's bass and water / bip(p) sounds haha
The vocal melody makes me think of PBVSGR songs structures : at first, it sounds very repetitive and rather "empty" but with repeated listens, you hear the loops evolve and everything begins to click.

Rusty told me he's a bit cheesed that they didn't credit him on the YouTube upload or in the Facebook Post on Panda's page. I would be too, the mix on Dolphin is incredible.

Super into this song! Only listened to the boots a few times, but at this point I think we could all expect that the studio songs would be a bit more tame and would miss the yelps that Panda does during the performances. I'm for that - love what's going on in the recording.

I get why people are a little disappointed by this track, but it also falls in line with the last few openers Panda's done. PP, Tomboy, and PBvGR all start with slower, repetitive, almost more meditative tracks to set a mood. The rest of the track-list will provide a lot more variety.

There's only a tinge of demoitis for me, as I already said on the subreddit, but I have to have listened to this like ten times since I woke up today and I'm enjoying it more and more. The vocoder backing was really intense live, and I'm relieved to hear it hold up so well on record. Now that everyone mentions it, I do sense a more intimate Young Prayer-vibe with the vocal line, and I'm digging it. Very much looking forward to February.

Fuck, this single is so good! Love how clear everything is, and the autotune/vocoder stuff is obviously awesome. I like the dissonant little lines that are adorned with smooth synthetic vibrato- I think he also sings "in between" when he hits the augment 4th which kind of lies in between the two harmonious notes around it. What's also funny because it sounds like he talks about switching off screens again yet the song is so digital. Good job PB

Haha a good amount of people on various reddit subs aren't feeling it. Whatever, though. It's a cool track, and no matter what it's nice to hear new Panda.

Is this the first AC track to use a vocoder? Avey’s messed with his voice but not like this. Sounds like Panda’s harmonizing with it?

The bass is great in this too

Great song! Psyched for the album : )

I don't know, that's what he said! Specifically about it not being on the FB post.

Like others have said, it was initially odd that he isn't belting this like in the boots. But 3 listens in and I'm fully on board. This rips!

I wonder if he's using a similar vocal effect as he did in the Cheap Treat remix, albeit much more subtle. Aside from the auto tune I mean...

Right? It's so weird. It's like people don't remember what it was like to get into their music. So much of it was unusual and not immediately satisfying, but slowly grew on you. But whenever new stuff comes out, it's like if they don't like it on first listen it's no good.

people in general are less patient today than they were ten years ago. all this instant gratification from social media has rewired our brains to expect it from everything

but also I'm seeing quite a bit of positive reactions on the subreddit as well, and seems like the reaction on CA has been almost unanimously positive. so yay!

well it's always like that in the first day(s), then people who dislike the songs/album write about it. Mostly because they don't want to be party poopers when everybody is hyped, I think.
