"Häxan" translates as "the witch" in Swedish, the Witch being one of the main characters in Prince Achmed...

i've been singing "derek" to my son ever since he was born and think about its meaning a lot, how you can do right by a dog and take care of it competently + completely, but having a kid shows you how hard it can be to love and saturate an emotional + nurturing space. a dog will not ask more of you but a child will (and does, and does, and does). it makes it hard to look back on missed opportunities with a pet, but you can also find comfort in knowing that you did everything they needed you to.

I had similar feelings and conclusions when my dog passed a few years ago. It was real difficult, but I agree with you wholeheartedly, it was comforting to know that I did everything I could (maybe spoiled a bit too haha). It doesn't fill the hole, but it helps. Thinking of you brother.

How is it that Enter the Slasher House has a run of Blind Babe, Little Fang, Catchy, That It Won't Grow, The Outlaw, Roses, Modern Days E, and Strange Colores, yet isn't thought of all that highly? That'sa serious run of tracks. A sender is an unreal opener too. Your Card doesn't do much for me at all. Duplex and Catchy are probably the next weakest but the bulk of the album is really great

Eh. Roses and Strange Colors are fun songs but don't really do anything special imo. A Sender is cool but loses steam halfway through and the lyrics get kinda lame when he starts talking about spirits.

I think most of these tracks sounded good live but didn't translate well into the studio. The aesthetic is cool, but I just don't hear a ton of emotion on this album.

The mix is a complete mess in my opinion. I saw the songs performed live, besides little fang, and I would prefer a live release instead. It's like Rosie Oh, but an entire album's length, noise wise.

I agree with everything you said here. I put Roses and Strange Colores in the same category as Spilling Guts

I'll also say that the 2013 Glasslands versions of TIWG and The Outlaw are two of my favorite live Avey performances

real talk, that album is what got me hardcore into ac. i had never spent a lot of time listening to side albums, or even their older AC albums until i saw slasher flicks live. it was amazing.

yeah I was gonna say it was sort of a less involved point in my fandom but the grim reaper boots were like a week later and i was super into that. never really gave this project much of a chance, although I’ve listened to it a few times recently. I agree the mixing could have made a big difference

With so much amazing music in the pipeline, I can only hope that this current lull is because they're writing and planning and maybe even recording. Either that or they're just hooked on Goblin Slayer and The Great British Bake Off.

I think part of what's turned me off is Slasher Flicks' drum setup and beats, they seem so typical indie rock compared to most other AC releases.

Lull? They've been as active as ever the past 2 - 3 years.

We've seen two Panda Bear releases (1 upcoming), an Avey Tare album, Meeting of the Waters, new songs from Deakin, a Geologist tape, several one-off performances, a "live" LP, a super intense touring schedule, and probably some other things I am forgetting about.

But you're right, we haven't seen much "official" AC material in the past 18 months. I'd be very surprised of Dave and Noah weren't writing together while touring.

Painters EP was more than 18 months ago. Tangerine Reef isn't really "canon" AC in my mind.

But actually not joking, I mean since the Eucalyptus and MOTW and Homies stuff. That's quite a long time ago now. Homies was January. Not personally a massive fan of the Geologist tape or the Deakin stuff though I'm sure they have their fans.

The long and short is that I completely forgot about Tangerine Reef. Also, I'm excited for their next wave of releases because they're sitting on some genuinely brilliant material so I hope they also know that and get them recorded and released.

I think it's a bit silly that the Mothlight music hasn't been recorded or ever referred back to, as an aside. That's better music than anything they've released in the interim.

Asked Dave after one of the sung tongs shows if he was going to record the solo material and he said yeah but def got the impression it won’t be for a while. Down There b-sides he was vocal about there being no solid plans for it.

I am fully expecting this next one to be a complete masterpiece. Dave and Noah's recent solo work has been very next level and based on people comments about the MBV set, it sounds like that was very next level as well.

Also, seeing them perform Sung Tongs live reminded my why I got into this band in the first place. It seems like they are on track to reclaim the "magic" that was lost after MPP.
