OK son, we're going salmon fishing in July on the River Tweed. Bring a crate of beers for the ghillies and don't tell your mother about the cigars. The boys will give you some stick but I know you'll hold your own. We'll blast Slasher Flicks bootlegs and drink Speyside whisky all night and live off bacon butties, pork pies with pickle, fresh gooseberries, pots of tea and Scotch eggs.

i could get used to this. just adopt a bunch of us and then sue music box claiming our livelihoods as young AC addicts is threatened by the lack of official soundboards/recordings? it totally makes sense actually.
but ya shoutout to person who shouted out Spider Bit My Lady... that and the whole darker, jammier part in the middle is crazy... a darker, spacier bridge between the first few songs and everything after Prestor. I also think a studio Tri-Kid could be so grrovy and sweet

they won't ever release this to piss us of. I am calling it now.
just heard back from one of the founders of the venue, gave me his number and told me to call him to talk about financing the editing

Fantastic news! I would totally throw down some $ to make this happen.
Would also LOVE to get my hands on the footage and cut it. It would be an unbelievably sweet project, especially if multiple people took a crack at it and we had vastly different edits floating around. All with the band's blessing, of course!

If it's possible it'd be a good idea to contact AC about it just in case, they may already have plans
By the looks of it they don't but I can't imagine they're just going to forget about it totally

i'll bring that up but i think it should be fine, the only issue i could see is if they tried to profit off of it and that won't be an issue because they plan on releasing it for free. I'm sure AC gave them permission to film since the guys were standing onstage with the cameras and the band wore the same outfits both nights so if they wanted to delay the release or wanted the footage for themselves i'm sure the guys who filmed/have the footage would be aware of that. if the venue changes their mind and decides they want to do something beyond uploading it for free then i would certainly make sure to contact the band first. can't hurt to double check with them either way though you're right, i'll prob shoot them an email just in case
but yeah it's crazy, the material is so good, how could they not have plans for it beyond those two shows?? that's my gut feeling too

I hope Avey gets his notebook back. How did that guy possibly think Avey would be ok with his notebook being stolen?

yeah the guy was posting a lot on the subreddit and his mentality was pretty much like "it was like taking a setlist" because it only had stuff pertaining to the show in it (setlist, lyrics, chords, tuning etc), not anything "personal", but still, it's not your place to make the assumption that someone is done with their property, not a difficult concept to grasp lol

I know I'm hella late to the party, but I made a stereo version of the set by lining up two of the bootlegs, panning them a bit, EQing them to sound even, and sprinkling a little magic dust to bring everything together (centering the bass, harmonic excitement, etc). It's still not the greatest audio quality, but you get a better sense of space and I feel like it's a bit easier to hear more elements of the music.

Magicians in Baltimore sounds finished to me. Wouldn't be surprised at all if it was some kind of CHz leftover

Wow, I took a 5 month hiatus from AC fandom and got to come back to this. I legitimately broke down in tears at the end of Defeat. This is the sort of material I've wanted from them ever since I became a fan; something relatively mellow, sad, natural, yet still with a bit of electronics. This is insane and I hope it gets the proper studio treatment - I mean it has to, right?

This sounds great, you kidding! Wow thank you. Can you share more of your process? What kind of "magic dust" did you do? And you ran it through a limiter I'm guessing to bring the level up? Bravo!

Wow. Does anyone else here feel like the band achieved a kind of ideal compromise between their acoustic and electronic sound worlds with this set? I PRAY they 1) record studio versions and/or 2) explore more of this sonic landscape for a future release, but won't hold my breath, given how it was a "site specific" performance and all. Does anyone know what instruments Josh and Dave were playing specifically? Was Geo involved?
Also how many other musicians were involved, on drums/strings/etc.?

These are good pics musicbox posted way back. Can see some of the dudes gear a little bit.

THE SHOW: Last month Animal Collective performed “site-specific music” two nights in a row in New Orleans. 70 minutes of new jams. What I didn’t realize until I spoke with MBV is that ALL performances at this venue are site-specific. The musicians that played with them were local artists and a lot of the instruments are actually physically attached to the structures on the stage. So very site-specific indeed.
THE JAMS: MBV said that Animal Collective would like to recording these jams eventually, but that the arrangements would be quite different in the studio due to fact that they won’t have the local musicians and the MBV instruments.

Geo played an SP-404 sampler, a Moog Sub 37, and various other electronics. Deakin played a Fender Telecaster I belive and a Sequential Circuits Prophet 6. Avey played his classic Roland Juno-60 and a bass guitar, and an acoustic guitar as well. There also was a large piano in the center of them which they used too.

Yeah think these are gonna sound tooootally different once they come out of the studio. I would like Prestor John to stay as close as possible because god damn that one is a giant, and it's been a while since they've done something that sparse.

Thanks man. Yeah I did a bit of limiting to it, but I tried to keep that pretty subued. Mainly I took the two video recordings of the full set that existed at the time and in my DAW, lined up the waveforms until both videos were in sync. I then I used the perspective of each video as a reference of where to pan the signals, and made a generally nice sounding stereo feild with that. After looking at the EQ spectrums for each signal, I did my best to balance the overall spectrums to sound closer to in quality, and then did more EQ to the master bus to lift the high end and the low end appropriately. Then I did a mix of very subtle reverb to add more space, and using iZotope imager, widened it with whatever their sexy algorithm does, and then finally using iZotope Ozone i centered the low end (under 150hz I think) to make it sound a little more like a studio recording. Last step was adding a bit of harmonic excitement to the range above 15khz where a lot of information loss occurs during the compression caused by filming and uploading video. This also prevents more severe transcoding artifacts that uploading an mp3 of and mp3 can cause, although at 320kbps the loss is fairly minial anyways.
Hope that clears things up.

I just realized how fucking good Spider Bit Our Lady is. Between this, Prester John, and Defeat this is the best longform songwriting Avey has done since like Safer. Those songs all evolve so patiently and pay off so much. Exactly what's been missing from a lot of their material from the past couple years.

Yes! Spider Bit our Lady is such a standout! The vocals are so intense and the droning instrumental is epic
