I think PB is advocating a Portugal-style "Brexit" from the EU in "Sunset." Or perhaps he's questioning capitalism. Or it's possibly a break-up song.

Or it’s about how he got rich by finding a euro in the ground every day.

could you ask Noah to send u the playlist on the sleeve of the record?

I was looking into this and found a reddit comment where someone claims to have found all of the videos

https://www.reddit.com/r/AnimalCollecti ... e/dsghpi5/

I haven't looked to see if all of these are correct, but some of them are samples used on the album and others seem like videos Noah would be into

Oh cool here’s everything embedded and shit (next page’d)

I used to own this nice Orange guitar amp that would feedback really easily if you cranked the volume. Wish I still had it just so I could try playing the Part of the Math drone with big Pete Townsend-style windmill strums :metal

As someone who has learned to live with and get over tinnitus, please don't listen too loud, guys, unless you want to stare death in the face every second of every day for months and barely cling to whatever hope remains before you finally decide not to top yourself on essentially the toss of a coin style epiphany.

I'm not an expert on this subject but I think this exactly describes tinnitus, unfortunately

I've experienced random ringing during silence but only infrequently. I'll hear it like once every few months. But yeah I need to be better about listening to music at a controlled volume. I decided to give myself the weekend to blast the EP but now I'm gonna try and keep it at a reasonable level

If it doesn't bother you, that's great. Tinnitus doesn't do you any harm and it takes some people a long time to reach that point. I should also say that I developed it after an ear infection rather than loud music but the point is that you don't want to take your hearing lightly.

Woah man, your most brutal takedown of PBVSGR yet

Finally got my copy in the mail even though it snowed like three inches here in Nashville today. It's a good backdrop for the sunset over my white parking lot. Unfortunately, I need to get a better record player. I think mine is slightly off calibration. I was getting some gnarly skips in Flight, but not enough to damage the record.

shaker on Nod is perfect, and the rim shots or tiny snare hits on Sunset sound great on wax.

But without a thing to say
It's a big show
Even if they're painted on
And we only got ourselves to blame

into the harmonica and then the instrumental section with the bass riff in sunset is new favorite panda moment, along with all of nadir and middle of alsatian darn... but like even better? fuk

I reckon he sounds out the vocal delivery and rhythmic feel he wants first and applies the lyrics later... for all the rich harmonies on this release i still feel he wants you to work hard to tease meaning out, and there's definitely a decision to obscure or hide from easy straightforward listening and interpretation

I know at least for greaper he used a jomox xbase 999. I don't know that machine well enough to tell you if its on homies, and i dont think he's said anything about the gear he used on the album (though it seems to be mostly his octatracks and OP-1)

Last week he posted a video with a clip of Flight on his Twitter and the visual was him playing with an Elektron Digitakt so that's probably it imo

Finally got my copy today and gave it a few turns. Worth every minute of waiting. I need to listen more to properly digest it, but first few listens gave me the same feeling of intregue as when I first heard Person Pitch, or first heard Boys Latin. Those recordings, to me, were such unchartered territory. I had never heard anything that sounded like Nautica, Bros, or Carrots. No one had ever played the vocal trickster like in Boys Latin that I knew. I love those recordings for the way they simultaneously blend uniqueness with a trace of familiarity. Now, I have never heard anything like Homies. The melodies seem like something I would catch myself humming absent-mindedly, but then also seem somehow complex. The lyrics hit these vague notes of relatedness, but then make me wonder what the hell he's on about. And the fuzzy production, that driving crunchy blasted out bass.... Its like he is taking an intermediary step between PBVSGR and a grimy dub/electronic sound. There are still the squelching synths but then this overlay that shuns the candy coated glassiness and rolls around in grit. I definitely hear that organic sound that comes from Container/Black Dice but Noah's voice takes it in a very different direction.
So good. Cant wait to see it live this spring.

Well said! I concur wholeheartedly. I'd love to someday read about Panda's mixing techniques/philosophies with this record, like something in Tape-Op. It sounds so meaty and analog, but I remember from past interviews that he's used UAD Apollo stuff into a computer (in his home studio at least). Love how gritty and punchy these songs are. The mono thing really works. It's refreshing to have a record that doesn't have me reaching for headphones, a record that elevates the songwriting above the production. And it's a home run. Not to discount the "sound worlds" that past PB and AC records created, but this thing seems like a conscious rebuttal to those. It's a little hairy and sweaty and wants to party.

Just had a thought, with the way these songs have extended intros/buildups and very raw and minimal instrumentation, imagine if he had recorded the OG Faces>Jabawaqy medley for this era :o
I could totally hear it working in this style

Yeah I love hearing Panda work in this mode and I would be so fucking happy if he has another ~30 min worth of songs like this. Tho his other new material could sound totally different for all we know
I could def see BOUY as an abbreviation for a compilation of 2 EPs

Part of the Math stands out as being different from the other 4 tracks, not sure if this is just because it may have been around a little longer than the others, but it coud have been on the crosswords EP and been more of a bridge between PBVSGR and Homies

Yea I agree. Part of the Math does sound a little bit different. It seems to be the most likely candidate that could be fleshed out into a full band song. I sorta get live AC 2006 vibes from it

I had been wanting Panda to release a record of full-blown club beats and I'm somehow just now realizing that this is it. I guess I had been imagining him releasing some instrumental house/techno tracks almost like the Swallow at the Hollow stuff but this is so much better. It still functions as pop music like most of Panda's stuff but the beats and grooves are given more precedence than ever before. With something like Afterburner, I still think of it more as a psychedelic soundscape even though it has a clubby beat, but the beats are so upfront on this release that you can't ignore them, which I love

I really wanna hear this music presented in a dance music context like a DJ mix. I would love to play a DJ set and drop Nod to the Folks just to see people's reactions during the parts where it's just sirens lol

to me its always felt like panda bear makes music that caters to those who enjoy drum machines and electronic sounds(and PsYchAdeliiiiA), not really like making club tools for people to get people moving or for dj's to freak out over.

i could kinda see them working in a more chill dj mix though, but i wonder if they would be total vibe killers lol(i dont know how to not make that sound like a diss). i love the songs here. flight is the only one im wishy washy about

id love to see him do something super instrumental and the vocals take a kinda backseat and just makes the weird whirring detuned stuff he does. but ya know, that just, like my opinion man.
