So, thoughts? Beyond simply being "beautiful" and "awesome?" I haven't heard it yet, and I'm quite excited, anticipating a Sleep Cycle-style thing
musically: blend of acoustic, hushed tenderness and immersive ambience. it'll take a lot longer for me to digest it all, but it's super meditative. great for relaxing and thinking about important things.
Meditative is the exact word I was gonna use. Almost sorrowful but with subtle tinges of hope. It meanders into some playful waters with amazonawana.. the sound collages make me want to be in the forest in the dead of summer while cicadas wail and the frogs scream bloody murder. It's gonna take a while to dissect the lyrics though

I think this may be one of the few Animal Collective releases where the vocals aren't hidden in the back of the mix essentially. Vocals are pretty clear this time around which is neat. Definitely some interesting lyrics though. Really like Man of Oil's lyrics, definitely not sure what they mean or are about yet though!

fosho. so sweet. they still got it and I'm so happy about that.
aha. uhm. I thought you guys didnt have any magics because u maybe werent aware of the undergrounderish activities but it seems like you were referring to a better version I no has. sorry
Finally listened to the whole thing, fucking amazing. Blue Noses kinda reminds me of I'm Your Eagle Kisser, it's much more chilled out obviously, but something about the guitar rhythm feels like a similar vibe. The collage-y kind of stuff in Amazonawana/Anaconda Opportunity totally reminds me of the transitions on C Hz. And the guitar/melody in Selection Of A Place is soo nice, closest reference point in their discog that I can think of is Working, but it's still pretty different from that I'd say. These are just the reference points that pop into my head on first listen but overall this sounds really fresh. It's cool how this is the only AC release recorded by 2 band members that was also recorded totally live (at least I assume it was, based on the pics of the recording sessions and how it sounds overall)
All of the field recordings/modular synth/weird noises are so next level, the atmosphere is unreal. Honestly I hope Geo keeps doing some modular synth shit for future AC music because the sound design on both this and Painting With are incredible. On this release I can't tell where the field recordings end and the modular synth begins, which is really sweet, I love the way it's all meshed together. About 2 min from the end of the record when that one sound started changing in pitch I was like wtf!
Also totally agree w/ preacherben that this is a perfect companion to Sleep Cycle, both because of the field recordings and the overall sparseness/drifting quality
Thank you AC for bringing this into our lives

First impressions: Underwhelming in a GOOD way. Definitely meditative and campfire songs-y. The new territory here is very dry up-front vocals and very interesting and compelling sound design from geo. I want to say it strikes me as a very humble release, like they're letting nature take over the album and not getting in the way? The songs don't really launch the way they used to, making it more relaxing and less edgy. It's a great change-up, and I just can't believe this band can go from freaking hyped-out technicolor Painting With/The Painters to something like this. But I love how unpredictable they are.
I will say if you don't like ambient/folk then you may not appreciate this? But I'm sure everyone here is into that.

I can PM those who need it!!!
i think you mean "understated" - underwhelming would mean you're not happy with it, but it seems you are
third listen, really liking this. like the others said it's very meditative, I often feels like Good House could pop up out of any ambiant moment. Every thing sounds really good, the use of sample, th guitare, and most of all it's so good to hear Avey singing like this, without effects or hocketing.
Sounds like a boot with the transition and all, it all floats really smoothly.
And I think I might appraciate PW even more now that this exists
yeah this is really cool, managed to snag the only copy my record store had. Was dozing off a lil on my first listen in a good way and then the end of the album came and scared me as I was half asleep
