In other news, it looks like Animal Collective is now signed under a new management company called LoyalT based in Brooklyn. This includes their solo acts as well. https://www.loyaltmgmt.com
interesting. any idea who their management was before?
i know windish was their touring, and windish got bought by paradigm (who still appear to be their booking agent).

Paddington Band was an EP released by Automine in 1995. Automine was a band that contained five people, three of which were Avey, Geo, and Deakin. So that would be a release where every member of AnCo is on it except Panda.
^Yeah but the question is specifically about releases that are 'officially' designated as Animal Collective releases, not just any band that features some members like Automine. Like Texas Trill pointed out, there are some releases like New Psycho Actives that don't feature Panda but they're not released under the name Animal Collective. (Not a perfect example since it's really a split release by solo artists, not collaborative, but you get the idea). Some ppl posting above were trying to determine whether or not Coral Orgy could be the first release/performance under the name Animal Collective that doesn't feature Panda, and it's not totally clear. And it's not just about who was there for the writing/recording of each release, but who had agency and creative input (see the example of Geologist being present during Campfire Songs but not necessarily having creative input)
I'd agree with Texas Trill's perspective on this, the line that designates 'official' AC vs. not official isn't always clear imo. I think it's also telling that it wasn't until their 3rd album (4th if you count Spirit) that they even actually used the name Animal Collective, and they only used it because it was a more practical band name than Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist and Deakin. And more easily marketable I guess, but I don't remember my AC history well enough to say if that was actually a factor in the adoption of the name.
I think one reason why it could matter that certain releases are designated as "officially" Animal Collective and others aren't is because of copyright/legal issues with the label, like maybe they have certain rights to any new music branded with the AC name (just speculation tho). Otherwise I'd say the question of where that official designation begins and ends doesn't really matter and it will be different depending on which fan you ask. It'd be hard to imagine a release under the name Animal Collective that was just Deakin and Geo for example, but it'd still be Animal Collective right? At least to some degree. And it would certainly sound like Animal Collective

Could anyone crunchitize me the "Just the Sides" mixes? I didn't download them when they were around and now I can't find them anywhere.
I was just thinking about these and how I no longer have those files. Would somebody be willing to upload them if you have them? I'd also be curious to hear PW/PBVSGR/ETSH with the same treatment.
Live Nation will produce its first TV show, Earth Works, with Vice’s new cable channel, Viceland. On the show, set to premiere this fall, musicians travel to imperiled ecosystems to highlight certain threats through song. In one episode, the band Animal Collective travels to the Amazon jungle to record animal sounds.
If this show ever glimpses the light of day, it looks like we may get to see what that Amazon project that was teased last year on Avey's instagram. I suspect this is what Geo had to sign an NDA for
^i mean it sounds like we'll definitely get to see it, 'set to premiere this fall' / 'in one episode' makes it sound like it got the greenlight / already filmed a whole season
I do think we'll see it sometime in the future, however that article was from last May, so the hypothetical fall premiere already passed and now Earth Works is currently in limbo
ohhhhh okay gotcha didn't realize that. yeah i'm thinking we'll prob see, it's just a matter of when. i wonder what the delay is, maybe they haven't filmed a full season's worth or something?
Idk, but I googled Earth Works + Live Nation and found an article from back in 2014 that talked about there already being footage from the show that had been previewed of Snoop Dogg and Band of Hourses seperately preforming in different natural settings. So it's odd that nothing has officially been announced yet given the long gestation period
Also I went back and found this post in the PW thread from a year ago :

A friend was in a meeting that one of AC's management people was at, and overheard the manager talking about something crazy that animal collective are trying to do, and how it posed some logistical problems.
Basically like..
"man these guys are trying to record INSIDE a volcano! I don't know how we're gonna make this happen."
I told my friend that was interesting mostly because the new album isn't out yet and they are going to be touring till september. So nuts that they are already in the planning stages of the next step.
Really not trying to be cryptic/"I know something you don't know", but I just don't want to specifically say it cause it may not happen and it's not my information to release.
coollodges, if you're reading this, is there any other juicy info that you know about this Amazon project?

This sounds sick as fuck. If this is really the route they are going for their next album (field recordings and sound collages) my thoughts about their next direction may be confirmed. I have always said they need to do something more ODDSAC and TTG related in terms of arrangement. Recording animal noises, volcanoes and other natural things for their next project? Sounds pretty awesome.

I'm so sceptical about any predictions for their next direction. They haven't finished touring Painting With yet and that happened ages ago now. It seems more like something they did on the side. Also they use field recordings in so many of their albums already that I don't think them doing more field recordings is an indication of what the whole concept of their next official album will be.

In addition, he pops a jump but not too hard so he had to carefully measure the specific effort and then implement it.
Would anyone be interested on working on an alternative track listing for Painting With that includes the 7" and the new EP? Changing track listing around, add or removing even replacing some songs, however you want to do it. If so, should I make a thread? I've always liked when people incorporate EPs into final albums for an alternative track listing, it adds a new perspective to the music and project as a whole and really is just fun to debate and play around with.
as a hockey fan i'm always entertained by geo's hockey interviews/write-ups. interesting discussion with boyd too!!! awesome stuff, gave a look into ac's touring (my fav part was his open invitation to any junior team flyers players lol). the shot at the rangers/avery tho...ouch (lol)
