The only thing I don't like about this album is that it's hard to sing along :negative:

^lol ya avey and panda's songs are both hard 2 sing with at first for different reasons... def noticed that and then noticed that in the long run this actually makes it one of the best albums 2 sing with cuz its like choose-yr-own-adventure sicne theres a lot of different leads 2 follow i guess. kinda like also frightened

Agreed! Funny to think of it like a choose your own adventure but very true... I swap between Avey and panda all the time when singing along to the Burglars or On Delay, though with the hocketing songs I just combine the two lines. Weirdly it's lying in the grass that gets stuck in my head the most, the opening verse is infectious.

One I haven't cracked yet however is Avey's part in recycling. Very weird

I'm sure it's just a simple vocal effect. But this song is like the beginning of Vertical but for a whole song

Imagine if Floridada hadnt been released as a single... in that world everybody would flip their shit when they first played the album because it really is a wild start. But yeah it wouldve been nice to be surprised by this song when i first listened. I do think the song is underrated. Its in my top 5

same, i think the song doesn't get enough love because people overplayed it before the album came out. if it wasn't a single before the album came out i bet it would be more popular among fans

definitely love those drums.

about the 'bridge' section (fly trap); i didnt enjoy it at first cos it kinda annoyed me and broke the beat and didnt make complete sense mashed up in there with the rest of the song. but now i totally appreciate it for the disorienting effect it has, to take me out of the song for a second and forget what's happening and when it comes back in, bam it's great again, i like that for sure.

so I decided to click on the dude's account, I guess he's running sound for them on this tour (based on this post). He also posted this 3 weeks ago: "had so much fun at today's live session for Animal Collective and KCRW" — radio session coming soon??

Yoooo. The boots have been great to hear the jammin dance vibes that are underlying the pop hooks, this KCRW will be hot. Have been thinking this album would be cool to hear in a 'live at the basement' scenario.... Will be keen for a DL, thanks for the heads up guys

Still listening daily, still loving it.... Panda's tracks have been the highlight, love the progression from GR

I feel like a real asshole for saying this because everybody seems to be very into the album. I didn't like the new album, at all. It sounds to me like they went 'dance' or something? Where is the meditation? I feel like I'm growing out of AC but at the same time I think PBMTGR was excellent. Lots of conflicting feelings.

"going dance" isnt really the issue

for me, there just isnt emotion or energy to it, and the instrumental arrangement is unexpectedly uninspired

its just not that interesting

i feel like i'm letting the band down by having that opinion :(

if you think they "went dance" u need to listen to the album a lot more. and the instrumentation is just as inspired imo. listen to bagels in kiev if u are feeling the older stuff, and i mean like ooolder like early animal collective. i feel like that track fits in pretty well because of the jammy nature of the song even if it is only 2 minutes.

Bagels in Kiev was the stand out for me but... I mean... do you really think it has Pride and Fight level (eeearly AC)? After Bagels in Kiev the album continues sounding like the first half of the record mang.

I think some of the people who were disappointed with the album, are too obsessed with the fact that they aren't enjoying the music, or that they were let down. Just listen to the music, with no expectations of it being "good" or "bad", and just focus on what parts of the music you enjoy. If that fails, then maybe the album just isn't for you at this moment in time.

I've been lovin the shit out of the album ever since it came out, and the Panda tracks have definitely grown on me. It took me a month of listening to PW to really, really sink my teeth into it and let the sounds take me away. My favorite part of the album are the vocal melodies. They're just so intricate and sweeeet, and so very catchy.

^^ yes do this. I think the new Deak will satisfy that itch for "magic" that some people figured the new AnCo lacked.

In a way, Sleep Cycle is almost the polar opposite of PW. Or two sides of the same coin or some other metaphorical garbage talk

Will give Sleep Cycle a try. Well Curved, there you go. To me the "magic" is what keeps me hooked to AC... the "fun" AC has never caught my attention that much to be completely honest.

they obviously kept the sound of pw. im not really talking pride and fight specifically im more talking automine (LOL!)

im jk obviously. but the middle section still reminds me of danse live stuff (so hollin too) but pride and fight is a different song completely, and an awesome one. i was thinking more along the lines of essplode. maybe animal crack box-y. and i think whether it has the "magic" is subjective. golden gal is one of their most magical songs they've ever made in their almost 20 year discog.

Maybe in a few years I will enjoy what Centipede Hz and Painting With have to offer.

I didn't know hating ac was cool... maybe because they aren't famous in this country -even though they're on the radio.

So is hating ac the new hating on nirvana?

um...

the colors of Painting With:

Floridada - orange-y and amber
Hocus Pocus - dark reds and purples
Vertical - very green, blobs of black
Lying the Grass - greenish but smeared and the sax sample rather orange
The Burglars - dark blue, darker during the whirlwind parts
Natural Selection - like a dark shiny aqua green
Bagels in Kiev - blues again, but lighter (that twitchy arabesque synth)
On Delay - so green!
Spilling Guts - black on black but those reddish background bleeps
Summing the Wretch - quite similar to 'spilling' actually
Golden Gal - ironically rather yellow-y and pale sky blue ('where you at, where you at')
Recycling - totally red, pinkish almost

The textures and sounds on this record are so original and strange I think my brain is grasping for answers but coming up with only fistfuls of colors. Splat. All over my third eye. Life is beautiful.
