I guess that it is hard for our bf/gf to listen to animal collective, there is a certain pressure et expectation. Mine actually like them and listen to person pitch once in a while.
We started dating during the Grim reaper era so there was a lot, really a lot of panda bear discussion also we watched the MoMA live stream together aha
Also my dad sung floridada well he just yelled/sung "Floridadada floridadada" and so on to make fun of me . I was fun and nice.

Yeah, loved one's have to be down with with the horrifying Avey clown. My husband, who is extremely into classical and opera, thankfully was open minded about them, and now really likes them. Or likes that I love them? Either way they're cool.
I remember when one of my best friends just hated animal collective because all of us in high school were pretty much "hipsters," so his way of out-hipstering us was hating AC. Literally said "Animal Collective is kinda like pizza. Everyone says its amazing, but it's really just shit, and it's not good for you..."
Then we started smoking weed more and he warmed up to them.

oh, show her feels, dude.
I literally just asked her to listen to it now. She said she's planning on it. Oh she also listened to Sleep Cycle and said she enjoyed that too.
nice! don't forget person pitch!
Will do when she's listened to Feels. Don't want to be "that guy" who talks non-stop about one band, even though I totally am that guy.

yeah, you want them to like the band for the music and not to listen to the band through the fact that it is your favorite band. (Don't know if this make sense, english / grammar wise)

It made sense. Yeah, I'd rather that not happen. Although I kinda get the feeling that maybe she's already doing that. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt though hahaha.

If every Animal Collective album was a pizza topping, what topping would it be?

this is perfect. I really need to write on a school application but now I have good reasons not to.
5 things i'm gonna do now:
1. read the pizza thread
2. read the more important pizza thread
3. spend some quality time with this question:

I would compare AC to a fruit smoothie. With loads of berries and kiwifruit and a like, cinnamon or ginger tang

My girlfriend said i was 'obsessed' with Deakin after playing Just Am like 8 times in a row when it initially came out. And despite not being particularly down with the word 'obsessed', i'd probably have to agree with her

I would compare AC to a well-timed, potent fart (the loud, earth shattering kind) that you get from that fruit smoothie. One that makes your friends and family run away in terror, but deep down you're happy they're gone so you can enjoy the sensory overload without ridicule

I have a friend of mine who's a couple years older than me, and while he's not really into AnCo, he understands why I like them. In return we both share an obsessive affinity for David Bowie and Brian Eno. We were in a music fraternity together, and I remember going on and on about MPP when it first came out. We'd always be at parties and he'd do an impression of me by going up to people and saying "Have you ever heard of Animal Collective" in a smug voice. I was a pretty big hipster back then if I'm going to be honest though, so it's funny when I think back.
The last girl I dated really liked AnCo, but wasn't too familiar with anything other than Feels and SJ, so I introduced her to most of their other work. That was around the time I first joined this forum in 2009. I remember when DanceAveyDance freebirded Fall Be Kind, and the two of us smoked a couple of bowls and listened to it twice in a row while giggling like dumbasses.
My current friends are all cool with AnCo, but they don't actively listen to them as far as I know. I could get away with playing them at a get together is what I'm getting at. Of course, most of my friends now are hippie-types or ex-hipsters who are approaching 30 or more, and that's the kind of music we all surrounded ourselves with during our college heydays. Maybe it's an age thing. AnCo probably isn't as "hip" as they used to be around the SJ/MPP era.

multiple songs on pw have rather childlike melodies. actually, i think its more accurate to say theyre similar to songs for children, as opposed to sounding like songs about being a child and children in general, which would be more like early ac

when i've played them in the car with my brother he's just made comments about how he "can't understand what they're saying so what's the point??" or if it's a song with avey screams he's just like "this isn't even singing!"
my mom says she doesn't get their music but she's fully supportive of my love for them. she's so sweet. i'm home visiting family right now (and also here to see AC at 930 both nights...hehe) and she insisted on picking me up from the dj set & show both nights so i wouldn't have to drive. in the car last night she said "i wish i was as passionate about something as you are about them." it made me tear up honestly. i played painting with for her the other day and she said it reminded her of paul simon, haha.
i don't know if my dad has really heard their music, but he's also aware i really really love them. i know he's done some research on them because the other day he started talking to me about their names and asked me what they meant, so he's probably listened to a few songs.

About a minute in, Lisa calmly makes the statement that yes, it is too weird for Lisa.
That's when my kiddo sighs and mumbles, "Well, I guess Burglars is out then...."
Fuck yeah. What a dope kid haha!

Long overnight road trip with my Dad. He's sleeping in the passenger seat and I'm listing to Strawberry Jam on the quietest setting imaginable. Obviously, you can't properly jam to AC without it being at least somewhat loud so I ever so slightly turn up the volume. Suddenly to the right of me I hear, "Son. This is some weird-ass music."
He then falls back asleep and says nothing for the next few hours.
