listening thru on bandcamp, surprised to hear Footy went from the brooding giant in the boots to a sort of angry wall of distortion. Very cool! glad it still has that thumping bass through it though :)

drums are MENTAL!!

Noticed that it def sorta references Boxer.

Like how this falls in line with darker/spacey stuff like down there, and oddsac. Love how ac has that darker more mysterious vibe that shows up on side releases.. Contrasts well with the manic/bubbly energy of the studio LPs

there is so much POWER in those songs
i think i can feel all the years and thoughts that went into this while i listen

for us that are normally living in the age of the immediate and the distraction this was a great lesson of time and patience

AC has been pretty fun on the recent records, but is not so personal INTENSE in a long time (except PB Tropic of Cancer i would say)

Thanks Deakin!

and i second that vinyl wish

Just been in the car in a torrential downpour. I put this on and - I shit you not - the rain stopped and the sunshine bursts through as first verse began on Golden Chords.

def agree with this. it's super refreshing to hear something that was obviously carefully crafted over an extended period. it feels like most stuff nowadays is covered in differing layers of hype - this feels different.

I love when that happens. Whenever things like that occur I always attribute it to the music having literally mystical powers. I am not surprised Sleep Cycle has some magic dust inside of it.

Just bought it on bandcamp--so glad the lyrics are included. . .

Yeah, Good House. Almost made me cry. The melody is so good! The way it resolves is just...wow. I've only listened a few times, but Sleep Cycle is in the upper tier of AnCo releases. Josh, you've been hiding this talent for way too long! Can't wait to hear more from you.

Does anyone else get Astral Weeks vibes from this? Not that there's any real similarity in the singing or music, but I think that it has the same kind of searching realness to it, like it's tapped in to the ultra-reality, if that makes sense. Maybe it just hit me in the same way, I don't know. But I do know that this album has made me feel a lot better, and I've needed that. Thanks Josh!

damn hadn't felt astral weeks til you said it but now i definitely get that.i think even the singing fits that vibe. very mystical, and like stanshall said there's this searching or roaming quality on these vocal melodies, a lot like stuff like madame george or something. idk i love astral weeks and i love this so i know what you're getting at

Golden Chords lyrics just hit me right in the feels.... so good

:negative:

Okay now reading along with Just Am and my eyes are welling up. Not to get too personal, but I've been struggling very much since last year and these words are really touching my soul at the moment. I needed this. :nateweep:

i thought the same :D oh my god, this is so beautiful,
all of it. shit, the neighbors are coming now, and later I'm going to shoot some video's, but when I step in my bed (yes, alone) I will listen to this from start to finish.

love you deak. I'm sorry to say this, and I know I can't compare the two albums but I have the (magic) feeling that, in the future, I will listen to this album alot more than PW.

oh man, thank you so much for posting the lyrics, deakin, love being able to read along with them as i listen.

this part of golden chords really gets me: "so why fight? / with nature’s call around / you talk about frights / in the verse of the every song / you tell me what’s wrong / but what’s right? / you’re seeing creation / that crushing never ending change is so full of love"

This album looks really cool on my iphone. The black background and purple text. Woah.

but um (ch) yeah i am listening to this like a madman for the past 24 hours. I love painting with A LOT but geez this album makes me tear up a lil and the production is so immense and full but balanced and perfect. Reading along to the lyrics really cut me deep too yo. The best takeaway from this album for me is actually how inspirational it is to me though, last night I wrote a song I'm really proud of because of the way some of these lyrics were making me feel. I've always been a Ringo and a Deakin and now.... IM SET FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Hi Deakin

You don't know me and I have never met you. But I just wanted to let you know that this album is fantastic. It really makes me happy to know that music like this exists. I have never been to Mali but I can hear the influences, I can taste spices of Bamako as I listen, even though it is not necessarily standard Malian music. But it is clear that Mali was a special place to you and that the influence inspired you to achieve a next level of quality. I am proud of you and I love you.

Loving reading all the responses here, this is a wonderful record and it's connecting with people in a big way. I'm so happy for Deakin.

first listen. really impressed by the vocal melodies and how many notes he bounces around on. not just up and down different pieces of a scale. but thoughtfully chosen notes held for just the right amount of time. its varied but not overly complex.

its beautiful how you can hear the influence all the ac guys have on the songs. even when they do their own thing, they are all one. not many special things left in this world that make you happy to be alive to experience them but ac is one.

since the songs were written around 2010, it feels like the old ac that a lot of people are nostalgic for. its the dose of pre chz that we all have been waiting for.

good house now i'm done with first listen. music giving me feelings again that anything is possible, including euphoria and utopia, in a world full of restrictions, power systems and hate.

also gotta mention how sonic boom, member of one of the most special bands to me spacemen 3, is collaborating with the band and how special that is. i still can't believe it. how they would find each other. glad peter is doing good things still.

golden chords is special. footy as well, but golden chords is soooooo pretty.

wasn't expecting this release to be so solid. not that I was expecting deakin to put out something bad, but I find usually waits this long for an album end up disappointing for whatever reason. not in this case though

Alongside Painting With Sleep Cycle kinda feels like "Living in the Material World" to Paul's "Band on the Run" in the sense that it is Deak looking inward/godward while the rest of the band is currently in a pretty extroverted state. This record sounds like Josh is trying to communicate something about an Other while at the same time some of the lyrics read as instruction or reminders to himself re: how to live. I can almost hear "Be Here Now" in some of the vibes on Sleep Cycle.

Just got done listening and it's brilliant! Thanks so much for the jams Deakin! I really can't compare/contrast it to PW, they are both wonderful on different levels and I am so glad I get to listen to both of them repeatedly many times over going forward.

Really stoked on more videos/book stuff!

tbh i was really scared good house would be that version from ttg but luckily it's its own thing.

I don't know if anyone said this but chords in Golden Chords remind me of In the Flowers, those are the same chord progressions in one part I suppose.
Also, my first 'reminds of' impression was Meddle by Pink Floyd.

I enjoy the album a lot. I had this kind of feeling while listening — ah, fuck everything, I let myself lose in this sound, like I surrender.
