What I would give to hear the dudes sit in on Heroin or European Son

If they can do this, surely they can join Brian Wilson on stage at Levitation for Pet Sounds!

Exactly what my first thought was. They're playing the same day and possibly one after the other. The hype for a possible collab is definitely intensifying.

I don't get it when some of you say Panda didn't utilize Avey as well as Avey utilized Panda. I do think Avey's songwriting on this record is a bit more adventurous than Panda's, but listen to the harmonies all over Panda's tracks. Beautiful, challenging, and abstract. It's like Panda wrote the harmonies he'd usually sing and replaced himself with Avey. Pretty amazing work imo.

I wrote a long-ass, super nerdy reflection on the album. Definitely borrowed inspiration from some of the things that were said on this forum that resonated with me but there's also some new nuggets of knowledge/insights in there too if anyone wants to check it out. I'm too lazy to reformat it for the board but here's a link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Rt2 ... -jWi8/edit

I guess all I meant when I brought it up is not that I don't enjoy the hocketting or that I like avey's songs better than pandas--I mean Hocus Pocus and Recycling are going down in history for me--its just that if you listen to pandas lines in avey's songs its like damn panda can fucking sing, where as if you listen to aveys lines in pandas songs it sacrifices aveys individual strengths as a singer for the sake of the hocketting technique. I know the band had mentioned this: that they wanted it to feel like one voice, that if you took out one singer the other would fall apart and not make sense. I guess I'm just noticing that that really only applies to how avey was used in pandas songs. Like no one is going to listen to summing the wretch and be like "damn you go avey." Where as its seems that almost every avey song has parts of pandas that are just hands down some of the best panda vocals I've ever heard period.

if you replaced all of avey's lines with more panda singing (ala boys latin) on summing and natural selection, it would sound about the same, as opposed to on delay and burglars where it really feels like only panda could do those parts.

dude I know right? They never really said what he did though. Like they asked him to do a violin drone but then he found out the song was in F and he said fuck that. but all they say about what he ended up doing was, "we figured it out". so idk. I listened to it really closely and there is an amazing sound near the end I think is him but I can't say it's violin.

yeah like it wasn't actually clear if he ever ended up playing viola (I think Cale usually plays a viola not a violin? idk) or if it was just synth stuff maybe?

So Painting With finally came in stock in my local record store so I got it.... but I messed the download up. I didn't realise that there was a 10-15 second delay for downloads so being the impatient person I am I kept refreshing the page thinking it wasn't working and now I've run out of download attempts with only the MP3 files (not what I wanted, was really hoping to hear those WAV files). Any idea on what I could do about this? Or am I just screwed.

EDIT: I got the Geo cover too. I actually voted for Dave in the poll because it was my favourite of the three when I first saw the covers. I totally dig Geo's cover a lot more now. I'm a fan of those repeating sections. It visually reminds me of solitaire on Windows. Weird comparison, I know.

So i feel like this album suffers from a lack of a distinct aesthetic

each AC album up to this point has had a clearly defined flavor, a strong sense of self. i feel like this one's just loosely "its kind of like painting!" but doesnt have a specific color scheme to me. the other albums all occupy their own spot in my headspace. this is the first one that just kind of "is"

I like this album a lot more since seeing them live. I didn't like it much at first, but the show was fucking transcendental, and it;s crazy how awesome this shit sounded live. Kinda think that that's how this stuff was meant to be listened to live.

I got the avey one but solitaire was the first thing I thought of when I saw the geo cover so I'd say you're pretty spot on

Kinda funny that the only songs they created in the studio first are even better on the live tour. I agree with you, the show was absolutely incredible and changed my opinions on a lot of the PW tracks

This is one of the most reductive critiques I've read. Especially the "it's kinda like painting" part.

Just found domino's Instagram, saw this:

2 things: at release they already had at least some copies of the gnip gnop/Hounds single, and golden gal instrumental!?
I hope we get to hear instrumentals of the album one day, that'd be sick

I have a cold and I'm feeling lazy so I'm not going to look for myself, but why do we think there's going to be a golden gal instrumental on the 7"?

That is not at all what meant sorry, should've separated the thoughts:

1: I found it curious that they have the 7-inch despite not shipping it until late March
2: the music playing over the video is a golden gal instrumental

I mean, the music playing is the same as the intro to the song, so it's not really an instrumental. just an excerpt of the song

sounds to me like the beginning of the song, right before the first verse starts, with the flytrap sample manually spliced in at the end of the clip

basically I'm just saying I don't think we should get our hopes up for instrumentals. that would be sweet though

the band could get so much money/subscription fees from us if they uploaded instrumentals to all their recent albums that they could actually do that for along with their own live recordings they've been building up over the years...
