I can't be the first to notice this.

I like how when Hounds starts it kinda sounds like it could be a triplet beat like Summing the Wretch but it's just a fakeout
the bells in the chorus are sooooo nice

you're not the first to notice ping pong=gnip gnop if thats what you're saying, but I totally missed the picture of the kids playing ping pong until I was holding the single in my hand yesterday. It should also put to rest any theories that the song is about the 70's game Gnip Gnop and not ping pong.

These songs are pretty cool. Gnip Gnop is mucho better than Hounds imo. Funny to know it's(G)nip (G)nop. Clever boys, clever...

gnip gnop is like a slightly less energetic floridada, i really enjoy it a lot but i can see why it got cut... might have been seen as like two of the same song on the record. it also has like the same drum rolls as the burglars

Gnip Gnop is pretty good but doesn't blow me away. I can definitely see why they left it off the record, it's one of Avey's weakest compared to PW and wouldn't really fit well either.
Hounds, on the other hand, is behind only Lying in the Grass as my fave Panda song from this era (so far at least!). Love the "no big deal" part. Would have made an excellent closer I think, which someone else pointed out.

Can absolutely see why Hounds was left off. Really, reeeaally feels like a b-side.
Think Gnip Gnop could've easily snuggled into the record between Spillong Guts and Summing

Both are really hitting the spot for me. Especially Hounds. Also, in case we never get digital versions of these, I did some mastering magic on them to get as close to the "vibe" & "texture" (and overall volume) of PW as possible. Nothing obtrusive though. Hit'eth me up if you're interested. And thanks to the crunchatizers!

surprised at a few ppl seemingly writing off 1 of these while liking the other...love both of em.... can kinda picture a version of the album with them on it but i think they also kinda make sense as non-album songs. Gnip Gnop could have been the first single for this album tho imo, and be the first track and floridada would be non-album... and can also almost picture putting Hounds where Lying is and using that as 2nd single.
Hounds seems like its kinda different than panda's other songs on album tho and thats sick. fucking love gnip gnop tho o man, primo avey for me. makes me giddy.. similar feeling to honeycomb and from a beach a little for me and i love the lyrics. "mastering the infinite volley" "watching the ball while its flying"
ping pong/gnip gnop as a metaphor for life/inter-personal relationships/hocketing/harmonizing/playing in a band... genius

Like 4:10 and 3:37, something like that.
I stick by my initial feelings. Gnip Gnop is really good but doesn't particularly go anywhere, compared to Dave's album songs, maybe one structural element less than the likes of Floridada or Vertical, which it most resembles. It's goofy, catchy, I like it!
Hounds sounds like Noah doing the same thing he did on Lying In The Grass but with different chords. It's impressive, in a way, how thoroughly he has mined one idea. Some of it is great but it mostly feels like a composition exercise in a music class. It's concept over content. It reminds me of Human After All, in a way. In the absence of inspiration, tighten the framework to see if you can push back the boundaries. I appreciate that these guys have worked with certain 'conditions' for a long time but since CHz, you can sense the perspiration much more. I'm not even complaining, I think it's impossible to maintain such inspiration for so long when you've already covered so so much ground at such an incredible level, and to come out with an album as enjoyable as this is a massive achievement.
Daft Punk, for their part, have released three albums and a soundtrack in AC's whole career; as much as I love them, they've 'achieved' far far less.

The two songs remind me a lot of Honeycomb/Gotham in that the first is more energetic and lively, while the second one takes its time.
And how can anyone not love that 'chorus' on HoB?!?! SO GOOOD

I don't wanna ever stop
With G-nop G-nip
You gotta ease in the beginners
You can't relax and you have to rise to challenge
Well there's no hate
Just love to keep ya gnippin'
When we were younger
We took up the fabulous game
G-nip and G-nop
It's the sound of the rhythm we play
That noisy rattle means
Someone will triumph today
Maybe us both it's the way that you look at what's winning
Linked in one mind if we master the infinite volley
Going the distance and watching the ball while it's flying
Feeling the effortless pull while we're swinging the paddle
None of us wants it to fall so we're working together
G-nip G-nop
The beautiful green top where
My mind is ???
The concentration's locked on
G-nop G-nippin'
I'm focused on the poppin'
I feel entranced on
The easy way it hops
I feel me movin'
G-nip G-nop is cool when
You want a loser
And loosen up the bolts
Would you feel the ball that's
Extended from the paddle
And send it off with
A spin that gets your heart goin'

If you ordered thru the british store I wouldn't worry because I don't think any have been sent yet. the US copies seem to have gone out super early

Ah, that would make sense. My copy of PW came pretty late too. No idea how I managed to order from the UK, seeing as I live in North America

wrong. gnip gnop is bond to be one of the best of this set in my humble opinion. its probably my favorite lyrics besides burglars/on delay so that helps too.
and maaaaan stan i disagree abt pandas stuff just seeming like a compositional exercise, i get so much visceral joy out of a lot of the hocketing stuff... and i also dont see how its rlly anything much like LitG, just saying.

Don't roast me, but Floridada and Golden Gal are the "weakest" songs of this set for me (if we're qualifying in that way), even though they kick so much ass. I almost feel like those two should have been the stellar 7'' (unifying regional love/ode to women) thematically, and then Gnip and Hounds could have gone on the LP in their place.

^but that's just an abstract ideal, not this most juiciest of real... and it's really damn juicy for me. Lovin' it.
