Oh ya I never mentioned last night but I thought it was funny how their proof posted was in no way actual proof.

lol yeah just "hey indieheads"
after some consideration i made my own alt track list for PW, just to keep things fresh. I tried not to change it up too much...
Vertical into Bagels works really well imo
lemme know what you think... i usually don't do this to albums, but since PW is filled with a bunch of standout tracks that don't really transition (i'd never do this to CHz) i tried it out.

I haven't really followed this thread that well, so it might already have been answered: but who wrote which song? Avey and Panda sang each others jams?
Help me clear this up, fellas.

I think they said somewhere that they wrote the lyrics for each other? But that can't be right can it? Noah's lyrics are so Noah, and Aveys are so Avey

They wrote their own lyrics, but they both sing on every track. In the past if for example Panda was singing on an Avey track, PB would just figure his own shit out. This time Avey wrote all of Panda's parts in his songs and vice versa.

The section of "On Delay" after the chorus sounds like the return of the happy singing band mentality. Loving it!

If they aren't coming to Ireland I will probably shoot over. My staying with you in the hotel is assumed on this side, anyways.

Really love this Atlantic review. Sort of written for an audience who are unfamiliar w the band, but nonetheless a thoughtful and impartial look at the album

Spent a bit of time with the album myself (trying not to read many reviews) and think it's just okay. I get the feeling from Floridada - the best song by a wide margin in my view - that they really could have pulled off some wonderful, concise pop album, but there's not enough variety in the sound (most songs seem to use the same dark synths and go at the same breakneck tempo, and the overuse of Boys Latin vocals are a problem) so it ends up feeling disappointingly small-scale and one-note in comparison to their other stuff. It could well have just been the huge buildup (this the first album of theirs I've been around for as a fan) for such a tiny, cheery album when people might have been expecting something colossal, so I reckon it will be looked back on favourably.
bollocks to all that
this album is fantastic

It's a great track. There are no bad ones. Spilling Guts is super, only ranks last because, you know.

After giving the albums a few listens across the last week or so, I think I'm realizing that I don't feel at home in this AC era--which is not a comment meant to dismiss the last two albums, but is more of a statement of where I'm at as a music listener/person. I just think that the magic I got from listening to feels and SJ was connected to who I was as a teen. I hope seeing some of these new songs live can give me a new appreciation for them, but it's also bittersweet to sense my excitement for future releases diminishing over time.
But for those of you who are in love with what AC has been up to for the last five years, I hope the group gives you memorable experiences--they certainly were more than generous with me.

Stop using the word "magic" in your criticisms everybody. I can't stress this enough

why? its a legitimate complaint. quite a few people are thinking these songs lack the emotional strength / personal longevity that the ones from ac's past albums had. it doesnt need to be more than week old for me to feel like its never going to click the way i hope it would

Seems like a good enough word for what I was describing--you know, my own experiences. And maybe it's emptied of meaning as more people apply it to more things, but for this situation, I like it, so I'll keep it.

My rank
On Delay
Recycling
Golden Gal / The Burglars / Hocus pocus / Vertical
FloriDada
Lying in the Grass / Bagels / Summing the Wretch
Natural Selection
Spilling Guts
What a record
Edit had to move vertical up from third to last. Literally just understood the parking lot part at the end when you have the percussion, that weird sound (no idea, its like a sharp horn/synth sound) embellishing the melody, and the general synth glory, and then that vocal echo effect that comes in every few seconds.
Fuck me another edit. I moved bagels up one spot to tied with LitG
Edit yep I'm back. Bumped summing up one

nice.
re: magic. nobody knows wtf that would mean for themselves if it's just emphasizing your own experience. either say "this album is not magic" to yourself or give cogent explanations of your disappointments

I can't get enough of this album. (No luck on my digital download, must have been a packaging error - so I just dropped another $8 on itunes. it's worth it).
It doesn't have the sprawling feel or variety of my other favorites of theirs (Strawberry Jam, Feels), but it's fun. I'm not sure where I'd rank it among the rest of their albums, I was pretty high on Centipede Hz when that first came out too and now have a hard time going back to it, but it gets me excited about where these guys are going.

Sorry for the bad vibes, but samey and magic are not good descriptors of anything unless it's a typo while talking about a magician named sammy.

I enjoyed Painting With a lot and I think samey and magic are perfectly fine descriptors. Very basic descriptors, but descriptors none the less. Everyone's entitled to their feelings and some people just didn't enjoy Painting With. Oh well.

Samey is fine as a descriptor even if it's wrong
Magic has zero objective meaning in this context. If the purpose of writing your thoughts on the album is to communicate to other people, it does not accomplish that. But you could write it in your journal and it should work just fine.
