Songs You've Come Around to

For a really long time I didn't like Turn into Something. I thought it was too shouty and felt like a forced rehash of Did You See the Words. Then the other day I read the lyrics and something clicked, I realised it's really joyous and fun! It's not a rehash, it's a recap, and exuberant farewell. And the drone section to finish it all off is to die for...
So what songs have you previously not cared for and then come around and realised are great?

Moonjock. I can't even say what exactly I hated about it, but it reminded me too much of a demented Beatles throwback for some reason. But I started loving it and the awesome riffs in it suddenly and now it's one of my faves from Chz.

Panda's huge yell has always been one of the best moments in the ac discog for me

Wastered. The first time I heard it I dismissed it as a boring ambient/droney track. But after really getting into HCTI and Hollindagain (like 4-5 years later) I gave it another chance, and I have to say it's pretty mesmerizing. Hearing the live versions of it also helped add to my appreciation for it.

Most of the noisy sections/songs on STGSTV (Untitled, parts of beginning of Alvin, beginning of April) were really grating to me but now they're probably my fav parts of the album
Actually most of their noisy era took a little while to get into, no surprise (two sails is now one of my favs by them too)
The last three songs on Sung Tongs didn't really fully click until I listened to the album on an acid comedown, hoooooo boy do I need ya now
Cuckoo Cuckoo was a little too aggressive for me until I hit an aggressive patch in my life and it kind of just started sounding better
Most of CHz (primarily Moonjock and the last three songs) also took a while to get into but only because I had a hard time getting over the dampish sound everything has. The songwriting I had no problem with or even the chaos, just the muddiness

Panic off of HCTI and most of Danse took a long time for me to get into, but I was revisiting the discography in preperarion for Painting With and everything clicked for me.

The Softest Voice and Visiting Friends - cause when I first heard this album I just wanted the pure sugar heroin pleasure delights of Sweet Road and Leafhouse but now these two are maybe my favourites from teh record.

Winter Wonder Land. I used to find it a bit annoying, like they were doing the song at 2x speed, but now I love the wistful vibe of it I hadn't really noticed in the past.

The biggest coming around on a song for me is probably In The Flowers or #1 for me. I didnt really get them for a while... now In the flowers is one of my fav songs on MPP and #1 on conan might be one of my favorite live videos.

That's such a strange choice for a song to play on TV but I love it.
#1 took a long time to click for me too although In The Flowers was the track that made me fall in love with AnCo in the first place. It just clicked for me instantly.

It took me a while to appreciate Banshee Beat (embarrassingly). Used to skip over it when I started listening to AC.

The first couple of times I heard Banshee Beat it felt like it was way too long and repetitive. Took a while to unlock the puzzle

Peacebone was a big one for me. SJ was the first AC record that I was waiting for to come out and when i saw the first live vid of them playing Peacebone I remember thinking they'd lost their melodic and lyrical abilities. the album was good and grew on me lots, but i kept my suspicion/grudge toward Peacebone for maybe years. i remember finally seeing the Said the Gramaphone fan video for it and just realizing the purpose of the song and seeing its spirit of fun for what it was and suddenly the melody and words were all beautiful, joyous, infectious.
flesh canoe was another. i always just found it pretty boring, meandering, skippable. it's now one of my favorite songs on the album and maybe in their discog and is a perfect piece of angelic wonder.

Taste was another one for me. for a while I thought it was at the point of the album where the ideas stopped. Then I heard the pre-album version and fell in love with the harmonies and the WORDS! then I went back to the album version: although the pacing is different, everything I loved was still there. except for that sweet arpeggio but you can't have it all
Also definitely on the same page with the dudes saying flesh canoe and daffy duck

actually Person Pitch was one that took a really long time (months or years, i cant remember) for me to get into in general. especially Comfy and Bros. Take Pills and Good Girl/Carrots eventually showed me the way in.

I'm on the same page as the guys who said Flesh Canoe and Daffy Duck. I was pretty harsh on Feels the first few times I heard it. Now it's in my top 3 AnCo albums. Maybe it has something to do with age...who knows?

The last four songs on Sung Tongs. It's not that I dislike them, but by the time they come on I often felt that I'd had enough of the album. Now I'm happy drift along with them though. (the album still feels a lot longer than it really it to me though).

daily routine and loch raven
both used to rank near the bottom of their respective albums for me, but at some point, they both clicked and are now my second favorite songs for those albums (and in my top 15 fav animal collective songs overall)

I really want to come around go Summing the Wretch. It's the only song on PW that I can't totally jive with.
What do you guys like about it? Usually hearing positive opinions on something I dislike helps me to have a different perspective.

yea drone is another huge one for me as well... I didn't think much of it,, until I saw Panda play it live on a september 11..an out door show on fire island right off of manhattan.. with the city glowing and the 2 lights shooting into space where the towers were in the background,,, he played it so loud and perfectly.. I couldve died.
(also side note.. after that show I waited for Panda to come out and get his stuff.. he came out and started taking his stuff down and talking to some dudes on stage.. during that I yelled out "PANDA YOU TURNED ME GAY!" and I made him laugh out loud.. like laugh really hard.. my greatest moment.. then my friend yelled at him if we could get a picture, and he said "sure in a little bit".. after he was done he came down and took a picture with just the two of us.. ignored some crazy girls and left. seriously one of the best days of my life)

the detuned piano line is what caught my attention at first
i think it works better in the context of the album, the vocals can surprise me on their own but next to spilling guts it transitions smoothly
then you've got golden gal and recycling and whoa this is good

Recycling has yet to click with me. I think it's a great song and has the best usage of the hocketting effect, but I feel like it's such a weak closer. I feel like I'm in the minority by saying this but I'd rather have Golden Gal close off the album.
Hope it clicks with me soon because everyone seems to be really down with Recycling as the closing song.

it feels like a 2 part closer to me in a way since theyre both kinda short... golden gal still has this closing song feeling and then recycling is like the coda/epilogue almost. recycling isnt one of my faves on the album but i do like that its so different than a lot of their closers. it sounds kind of really sad to me in a weird way, and i cant quite figure out what it means (to panda or me) yet based on the lyrics, or even the things pb said abt it in the ama

i really like recycling cuz it reminds me of a closing song in the way whaddit i done reminds me of a closing song...it just seems right. but whaddit i done takes a lot to get into for a lotta people but once u do its actually an incredibly emotionally draining song...and this one i feel really shows the "humorously beautiful" (shouts to kassa overall's snapchat) aspect of the album that other songs like on delay and the burglars show....and im pretty sure they use spirit synths on that..doesnt it sound like it
