fine, hocketing isn't really used that much on natural selection. but when it is it's used dreadfullly and makes me think that maybe panda bear isn't actually god. happy?

On Delay's a real sweetiepie of a song. I don't know how I feel about the album as a whole yet, really. But On Delay and Golden Gals are wonderful

I'm really surprised how polarising natural selection is. I guess it's pretty intense and "edm" like kingo said, but imo it has some of the more interesting uses of hocketing on the album.
What do I know though, I also think wide eyed is one of the best tracks on CHz lol and no one seems to agree with that either

I know nobody gives a fuck about power rankings but here's my new pb list:
fuck the last half of hocus pocus is so good though! splitting hairs basically :/ Pretty much the only take away here is that Summing the Wretch is the only song I'm not so hot on.

Natural Selection was probably the biggest grower for me out of the bunch, now its one of my favorites - a definite banger. someone posted this earlier but I agree and really think that it makes the perfect closer for side 1
roopn- I love Wide Eyed too, its such a jam. my first AC show was p4k 2011 and they opened with Wide Eyed. it was so good then and the studio version is still killer. other folks just can't handle the deak, I guess

Not a criticism
Some of these songs would fit comfortably on the Lego Movie soundtrack

Do people on here not like Wide Eyed? thats actually one of my favortes on chz. More power to you, Deak
The reason Natural Selection isnt clicking with me isnt the EDM-ness. I don't mind a bumpin AC track. it worked great as a concert opener. I agree it has one of the better uses of hocketing. However, the melody just isnt great to me. It's not easy to latch onto, and it seems just kind of boring tbh. The way noah sings is unexpectedly irritating for me too, it comes across a bit robotic. his voice is so pretty that its way more suited to singing melodic lines rather than punchy single syllable stuff.
all my opinion naturally

It sticks out like a sore thumb on that album. It's just a monotonous snoozer without much emotional resonance.

ya for some reason wide eyed has nvr rlly connected with me. i def dont mind it in the flow of chz tho, and i kinda dig aveys minimal guitar work. into deakins voice, and i def dont dislike it... it, ntb and monkey are kind of equally a low point for chz for me. why the whole thing has a kind of weaker middle section for me which is why this album is awesome. love the whole thing, but especially the middle is fucking perfect. Burglars thru to spilling guts is like my favorite ac run ever nearly

Just as I've experienced with every other anco album, PW gets better with time. I was worried about this with pw, because I was so excited about it right when it first dropped. It's been 95% of what I've listened to since

if people want to listen to sung tongs or feels remember they also have prospect hummer, pullhair rubeye, young prayer, people ep, campfire songs, and theres also rareties like always you/eagle kisser, not to mention the acoustic pulleys and wide eyed, all in similar veins.
and hey, who knows, maybe deak's guitar on his new album will flash you back to the feels days?
enjoy!

wooow.
those 3 are the 3 standout CHZ-tracks to me, and even when i do like this album more as a whole, I do miss tracks like that on this album, tracks that have a big, inspired gesture, something that feels really heartfelt and daring and urgent.
no single track on this album has that really (maybe Vertical and On Delay).

Avey's syncopated vocal harmony in Natural Selection is awesome, in "Strings tied to the hands-han-an-ans-ans-ans-ans-ans...mou-mou-mou-mou-mou-mou

i am stll loving this album but in an odd way, it has gotten even more samey the more i listen to it. floridada is a total oddball here but the rest are so similar. summing and natural selection are really falling off to me. i think it is because, while i get the frantic non-stop pace of the album, it uses almost identical sounds and techniques which make it more monotonous than it really needs to be.
sample > farty bass > simple electro beat > verse > hocketing > verse > hocketing > end
i love hocus pocus, bagels, on delay, recycling and vertical the most. they are all amazing
for what it's worth, wide eyed is the only track i skip on chz. it doesnt fit at all imo.
just my opinions though, im still exploring and listening to it almost constantly. i do feel like this will have a short shelf life in the beginning though.

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't see how Hocus Pocus is so much better than NS, SG, or StW. I like those three better than HP. I like the edge those other three have, whereas HP seems middling. Not that that's a bad thing, or it's a bad song -- I like it, just less than those other three.
Also, I wish you guys would stop using the word "farty." Is the only point of reference for a abrasive synths serious the sound that comes out yo butts? That's unfortunate. There's a lot of non butt-related tunes out there with similar synths.

lol this reminded me that a friend of mine who tried to buy AC tickets in 2012 crashed his computer and blames the band for it.
