I'm in Austin and mine went to New Jersey first as well. A couple hours ago it finally updated and said it was in Dallas, so I wouldn't worry about it (although it may not make it to you tomorrow).
bizarre. I'm in Austin and got mine yesterday.
Damn, I'm jealous. Especially since I'm heading to Boston tomorrow to see the NH and Boston show, so my record will end up sitting outside for 4 days while I'm gone.
need me to swing by and get it so no one takes it?

A lot of people have been comparing recycling to acid wash, which I totally hear, but something about that song also kinda harkens back to person pitch days to me. I think it's in the simplicity of the structure, how it's just one melody surrounded by some instrumental sections. The simplicity of that song is kinda what makes it hit so hard for me, I feel like it makes it the perfect closer. Having another brosport or amanita styled bombastic ending would be redundant on this album, when the whole thing kinda thrives on this super upbeat cartoonish energy. They needed something with a more muted vibe to cap it off, and the contrast of recycling to the other songs is the perfect dramatic change.

I've listened to this album over 20 times! There is so much I love about it! I can't walk down the street without humming these songs to myself.

it reminds me a lil of derek, a bittersweet sort of downbeat ending. the vocal melody on recycling when he (they?) sings "while you got it you figure/why not launch off of the very highest rope" kills me

Not sure which track you are referring to but the first time I heard the ending of 'On Delay' I was immediately reminded of the end of the scene in Donnie Darko that featuresTears for Fears' 'Head Over Heals' (4:20 mark of the song... 2:25 mark of the scene)... "funny how tiiiiime fliiiies" sounds SO MUCH like Peebs' "sooo tuuurned onnn, byyy the delayyyy" to me.
omg yes !! this is exactly what i meant ! awesome someone else caught that .

Natural selection is easily one of my favs. That melody with those lyrics. My goodness. When I first heard panda singing I might hve laughed out loud. I don't think it has anything to do with his marriage. He's talking about much bigger issues.

feel like people who connect to sung tongs/feels eras the most or who came on around during those times are the ppl who may be having trouble vibing with this lp. i came on in-between sj and mpp, so maybe pp/sj/mpp-bred ppl can vibe more easily with pw? just a theory. funny how different mini-generations come up under this band, i kno theres some ppl who go turned on by chz, so chz and pw will likely by their faves... and then theres those og mofos who were here on day 1 in the spirit-indian era...

It’s best this mess is part of the plan
The truth is moving under the ground
You’re sure the steering wheel is resting in your hands?
Tough to say!
You think success belongs to the bank
You take directions into the skin
An ancient motor revving up to keep it living on
Strings tied to the hands
Hands upon a mouth
Sneaky ways
The path is written before the act
A mode of growing seems like a choice
It feels like progress is a product of a hidden game
What obeys
You measure hits by stuff in the house
It’s more sincerely smiles on the face
The instinct leads you if you do or if you don’t want
Tackle on a neck
Trapped within the ring
Tough to say
What obeys
Sneaky ways
Sneaky ways
noah is 'woke'

^sweet lyrics. pbvsgr/pw era pb lyrics are bad ass
kinda funny how so many reviews for this cycle are so retrospective. seems like so many people who were college age for st/feels are just caught up being nostalgic for that era and rejecting new stuff. the whole retrospective vibe the band has given off in interviews lately, and the way this like their 16th year as a band... makin me kind of nostalgic. best band..

To be completely honest, I find relatability in each era of AC. While I feel the closest to spirit and danse, i can find a deep personal connection to each album for one reason or another, whether it's an experience i had with it or a relatable time in my life. Even chz is special to me, it reminds me of a long period of my life where I was sick and frustrated with my surroundings, and needed something as cathartic as chz. Maybe I'll find a way to relate to painting with, but right now, i can't really find a foothold on it. While this might be the most sonically cohesive album in their career, in terms of a thematic or emotional cohesion, i just can't find one

While I haven't heard the album (and may not ever) I have been reading the reviews. I like the nostalgia angle a lot and totally get it. I can't say much for the actual critique but love what I've been reading. Maybe Animal Collective is the new Weezer. Each generation has that one Weezer album they adore. Others cry for a call back to the good ol' days. Just the way it goes.

oh ok, see thats interesting. kinda want to make a poll that could test out that idea, which probably is just wrong. feel like this album is considerably more likely to please feels/st-lovers than chz did, but idk maybe not, cuz the vocal performances on chz are considerably more emotive in general and like drawn out in a similar way that feels songs are.... idk but i get sung tongy vibes on vertical/litg sort of, and feels vibes in OD. either way it seems like ive seen multiple reviews (the tmt and p4k ones) that had ppl from feels era hay-day being underwhelmed... maybe be a coincidence.

I slowed down The album by like 2/3. It's so nice, I think it may have been an intentional move.... Like pullhair rubeye.
PM me if you want the mp3 (or just do it yourself)

The thing is, even with sung tongs and feels era or earlier being an introduction, I'd hope long time fans of animal collective would know to not really have expectations about what their new style should be or sound like. They try to go outside of their comfort zone with each album.
They also seem to have more control and understanding over getting exactly what they want out of their equipment now. As wonderful as older material us, it also is haphazard in construction especially the earlier you go, a lot of the mystery and beauty of their work is them not having a complete handle on getting the exact sounds or not having complete control hitting the exact notes they want to hit. I think with 16 years of experience behind them now, they have a much better handle on how to get the types of sounds they want to get, even if they try to push themselves into uncomfortable territory, they are still improving their overall skills as musicians over time. I simply don't think it's possible for them to make the same sort of music they made when they were younger. I feel like a lot of the magic and mystery of older albums, was also accidental and a result of experimentation due to them trying to navigate with a less than perfect grasp of the techniques they needed to get the sounds in their mind. So Painting With is at once them being as direct, and forward facing as possible, but also them having the most competency at creating what they want. The result perhaps lacks the messy mystique of older stuff, but makes up for it in just being really really sweet, unique pop music.

I am not going to say anything about how i feel about this record until i've gotten to snuggle with it alot more. It's a new sound, for sure, and that was expected. I honestly dreaded every time Strawberry Jam came on when i first got into them, and now I would campaign for it to be crowned their magnum opus.
So instead of thinking about how I like it on the first round of listening, I painted with the album.
Cheers to our favorite dudes releasing a new album and starting another tour for us. They fucking rock.
