What part is the Cale drone in Hocus Pocus? Or is just the droney-synth throughout the song?

It's a little tough so say but yea, I think it's that kind of ghost-like moaning that's going on throughout the track. There's some parts, especially the outro, where it really sticks out more.

I have a 320 freebird but it still sounds distorted, is this that same one or is it actual full quality?

Golden Gal is such an amazing song. That video is whatever but I'm so glad this song is out there. It almost hurt the first time I heard it.

Not big on the video. Like five or six different animations looped over and over again until the end. Boggles my mind that the animators/producers/whatever wouldn't work to make something that grows or has some sort of narrative.
I suppose it's all about the budget at that point.

cover art for golden gal is panda's face again? huh. (nothing wrong with that, was either expecting geo to round out the set or avey, since it seems to be his song)

Well I'm definitely liking Golden Gal more now with full quality!
That last Panda part in the end is nice

Haven't heard freebird yet. The reverb addled repeat of the little blip thing in the new golden gal is really great. Made me laugh. Of the 3 singles I vastly vastly prefer lying in the grass. I might end up preferring much different tracks to everybody else. Goddamn if this isn't as good as music can possibly sound tho any one know who engineered and mixed this? Was it Ben Allen?

I really like this album a lot. it has this islandy, melodic, sing-song sound to it mixed with those grungy thrums and I think it has a unique but still somehow reminiscent feel.
I can't stop listening to golden gal and hocus pocus and a few others and I haven't even had a chance to listen to it while not at work, hehe. amazing album
good job, AC!

I don't get why some people seem to be ranking Summing The Wretch so low. It has one of the best beats in my opinion.

Same. Summing the Wretch stood out to me immediately after the first listen. I wouldn't say I like it more than Golden Gal, Bagels, or Burglars but it's in my top 5.

I'm not even sure what to think of Recycling. Not at all what I expected.

Still think Summing the Wretch, Natural Selection, and Spilling Guts sound pretty samey, but I'm sure I'll move past that. Haven't got a chance to listen to this loudly through speakers yet, and it's blatantly an album that demands to be listened that way.

I think Recycling is a stand out. It's catchy but instrumentally rather than vocally like the rest of the album. There is video game music sounding stuff happening, so crazy. The very end is extremely different than older stuff.

The second half of The Burglars was the stand out for me - especially PB's vocals.

Can we start a new thread? The album has just dropped but most of the posts here are just speculation and noise.

I am having difficulty absorbing this record.
Each song feels so different and so much better every time I go through, it doesn't many any sense! Songs I didn't like the first time around are songs I jam to the hardest now! I LOVE IT

The record is flat out stunning.
Stray thought: when cHz dropped it was like it's own galapagos island, a freaky carnal de-spiritualized outlier in the canon. But Painting With and Grim Reaper retroactively place cHz on a very clear sonic trajectory...and do a shit-ton to validate it.
