LITG is amazing. I didn't like it on first listen but there's a lot going on that isn't apparent at first. I love that it's so much more spacious than Floridada.

Yes, just like any AC song... I don't recall instantly liking any of their songs at first hear! Its just not that kinda band. ..(I'm preaching haha, I know you know all this already)
I sincerely enjoy the two songs from PW and if I didn't I wouldn't be the guy to cut anyone else's enjoyment down . I'm glad you and the others drop positive posts!!!

a special friend just hooked me up with the album. never thought this day would come. still can't share because it's watermarked but seeing as though I'm constantly on this website, feel free to PM me if you wanna know about some of the songs. I'm sure I would love to rant :)

edit; won't be able to respond to any of your messages until tonight or so, once I have actually listened to the album a couple times

questions for banshee: what is the recycling vocal like? which samples are misleading (if they are what are the parts we didn't hear like)? any cool transitions? and obviously fav songs, least fav songs, overall opinion, etc.

I would just love a description of Spilling Guts. That's the song that has me intrigued the most just from the samples. Does it build at all or just keep a steady pace?

Any ideas as to where the song gets its title? None of those lyrics seem to be about lying in the grass, and the music definitely doesn't evoke that image, at least to me

its pastoral sounding as to juxtapose and contrast with this sort of urban and def not pastoral sounding song?

its follows a plot/character from grass and/or lion in a coma?

Animal Collective are such musical alchemist! They often hit melodies that seem so familiar to me, as if they have always existed in the collective conscious since times immemorial, but rediscovered, and mixed into the cauldron of modernity. Listening to them is a feeling of both remembering and discovering the new and old. The lyrics on this new album especially seem like some sort of alchemical formula. I thought Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper had that same notion, especially since it delt so much with transformation.

i feel like they brought some nifty trix over from PBVSGR on this one... like how those Iko Ovo grunt noises keep their place but gradually change texture from the low groans to the wispy sweepy sounds, reminds me of all the sweet stuff going on with percussion/sfx on Selfish Gene or something

being a hunter or a predator? the lyrics mention (at least as i hear them) gut feelings, instinct, and urges. also about getting dirty while searching for something good, and about hiding (get mixed in this crippling fixture, try and approach the hidden mixture). like a predator lying in the grass, ready to pounce. i guess all that could be a metaphor for a personal search for inspiration.

Seriously... They have never done this, and if you've read anything about their creative process you know they never will. That's the beauty of AC – always exploring new sonic avenues with the same foundational childlike spirit and uninhibited energy.

This is an interesting analysis, but still doesn't explain away the curious title. In fact, I think 'hunter' would've been a much more fitting title.

just in case you missed the connection i tried to make. just my assumption though, and it is admittedly a stretch. if you take the title at face value, diomedes mentioned how the phrase juxtaposed the feel of the song, and i think it works the same way applied to the lyrics. this song rips!

Oops sorry must've glossed over that bit or just read it without reading it. I like the way you think.

I'd still then suggest something like Lying in Wait as a more fitting title, I dunno. Lying in the Grass just sounds automatically relaxing to me. Ah well

I work as a coordinator for different neighborhood based programs in philly. After a workshop at Temple today, my coworker and i were driving a participant home, a young 25 year old woman with some intellectual disability and hormone deficiency. She is a very, very pure soul. . Always seeking to be of service to her friends and community. Anyway, she also loves playing phone games, so i asked if she would like to play the Painting With app. She was cool with it, we took a photo of a busy street in her neighborhood (Germantown) , she put her headphones on, and she was loving it!!!! So full of joy, man. I feel like this music could be used in some real music therapy interventions. Felt so good to see someone just feeling their art and really being uplifted. Go AC!!!

I have had a similar experience with their music
my sister has autism and downs and a few of the times times that I've picked her up from places, i happened to be listening to mpp or sung tongs and she really responded to it in a more positive way than normal
so naturally, i cranked the volume :)
i feel that people with that kind of disability are really in tune to the underlying emotion(s) that are present within a song... thinking this album will be even more therapeutic in that regard, assuming that it doesn't cross that line that causes anxiety haha

What beautiful stories :D Man i'm beyond pumped for this thing. I liked Fldada a lot, but I LOVE this piece. Chz wasn't my fave, didn't give me the same feels as earlier ac, neither did slasher flicks (though i think it wouldve live based off of vids ive seen) or PBVSGR, but Lying In The Grass does. I was listening for my first few times last night, and it just grew on me and grew on me. At first, I was like "wuh? kinda cool." but by second listen i was like "this song is a window to a different world that opens and closes and its opening for me just a tiny bit right now. Now freebird me and pass the drugs, i'm 17 again and AC is literally all i want or need because Avey and Panda are speaking directly to me and they are me." FUCK. I'm bursting with love right now. I want to have sex with everyone this forum, starting with next person to post here. :goatse:

i think you're right - after listening to it all day i feel like line 2 is
"and a lane within the brain you know"
it might be 'ring', but definitely 'the'

Wait, so will Painting With have any "Avey" or "Panda" songs? Like on the previous albums, there'd be Panda songs like Daily Routine, New Town Burnout, Chores, etc. Those always made me excited, like how the designated Lee Ranaldo songs on Sonic Youth albums were usually my favorites. Deakin finally getting a chance to shine on Wide Eyed was amazing too.
