Granted, tons of good shit come out of sitting in front of computers, namely Sonics post which we'd otherwise have no access to
thats true .
But I dont say I believe nothing good came of computers - I was just saying for most people its just a better way to shout at the TV.......
...and 95 % of music now is essentially the same as it was before we all had multiple microprocessor based devices ( I was there...) . I'd love it to not be so.....
but this is seriusly OT . sorry....
because thru computers anything is possible . ANYTHING.
but mostly what are they used for ??
computers were menna be the way to break our bonds .
nothing personal . just my opinion.............dangerous i know these days.....
good call tho
it's like when I see a new iphone ad...
"NEW 3D PRESSURE SENSITIVE TECHNOLOGY"
most will likely use it for texting, facetime, email, etc (nothing wrong with these things)
just seems like the advanced technology is being pushed on a mainstream audience that may not use it's full potential
it could be at the forefront of artistic innovation, but these innovations often fall back behind other things
at first I thought Principe Real would be the lead single...
i think that was the track that most changed for me during the whole process
thats very true . it nearly hit the floor early on ......
personally - this will be contentious perhaps - I think the moog murf doing the choppy filter action made that song jel . it was the one song that stood out as a little uncomfortable . I think the phrase prozac was used .....
...Noah was down to nix it but it seemed like it could fit with the right extra parts.....the next day we tried some stuff and it suddenly kind of jelled .
he since said he thought prince real still stood out on the lp and he wished he'd used miss pacman in its place ....
I kind of agree , but the dream was always to take all the songs to release conclusion .
there were so many great songs , and I think the tracklist he figured was inspired .
who are the spying little guys? - is it not 'I spy little guys' - 'maybe emotions' ?
(probably us, right?)
his ore sum little son has some chest problems that are understandably worrying & i know its on his mind a lot ..... I think a few of the songs refer to things he learns thru his kids....good place to look...
- is it not 'I spy little guys' - 'maybe emotions' ? or is that just in my head.....
I think his lyrics were a real step out on this ...... pushing the plastic parameters of it in a refreshing way .
He seemed very quick to write / assemble some , but I dont doubt there was a serious amount of considering went into all of it on deifferant levels ...
interesting to know about principe real being replaced by faces, but i think that the idea of a character change happening during the lp is so cool, being transformed during boyslatin/ctys, in limbo during tropic and lonely wanderer, and reborn on principe with that alien voice is a great narrative
When a parent becomes terminally ill, one of the first things the children may experience is a vertiginous feeling of unreality. Time moves in a different way than you're used to. Things that seemed important a day before become suddenly trivial. The future collapses and rockets ahead simultaneously, like one of Hitchcock's dizzying dolly zooms.
For anyone who has been through it, the way Noah Lennox recounts his own family's experience of his late father's cancer will probably feel eerily familiar, from the initial denial—"When they said he's ill/ Laughed it off as if it's no big deal/ What a joke to joke no joke," he sings, in a dazed deadpan—to the unexpected forms that acceptance may take. When I met up with Lennox in Lisbon earlier this year, he explained that the song's more cryptic lines ("Sick has to eat well too") were a way of expressing "sympathy for disease, trying to forgive disease"—of seeing disease as "just another thing in the universe that's trying to survive."
It's an unusual perspective, but from the sound of the song, you can tell he's not being ironic: Rarely has Lennox's falsetto sounded more like a choirboy's, and the combination of the "Last Post" bugle call that introduces the song and the misty Tchaikovsky harp that comprises its melody perfectly evokes that fragile serenity that comes when the worst is finally over, and there's no longer anything to be afraid of. —Philip Sherburne

i dug the short disc concept , but the reality ......?
......with all the sick tracks ? was more how could we NOT !! tropic wasnt gonna b on it....
nuff said ?
33/100? Should be bumped up to 3 at least (not that any song needs p4k's blessing). Many thanks for the new demos petek! To think that PB originally meant for the GR to be just 8-9 songs and then to consider all that we've received over the past 2 1/2 years is amazing!
Because year's-end can't help but summon reflection and elegiac vibes, I will briefly perch on the littlest of soap boxes (despite it being difficult to emote in forum/thread format):
I can't and won't try to specifically explain how potent the GR song set has been for me over the past 14-15 months (since Mr Noah dropped), and I'll save my lengthy track-by-track musings for whenever the 33 1/3 series calls on me to write the PBVSGR saga. lol But in earnest, the way these tunes have paralleled/guided/inspired/challenged my day-to-day [day after day] has been sanely and insanely special! In navigating personal/familial struggles and successes (as we all probably do), the coming-and-going of friends/things/people in my recent life, the GR songs have continuously resonated in an especially deep place--that slightly hidden place we all seem to have but can't seem to talk about. And the themes of cyclical deaths-rebirths, the tides of depression, tuning in to/trying to override beastly instincts, confronting an underlying alone-ness in the world, the fragility and oft-futility of certainty and trying to understand (delivered joyously in "go ask why, no reply")--all of these move/stir me in an incredible way, and hit home on similar thoughts that have been rolling around in my own noggen as life continues to happen.
I remember being in steamy se asia (colors abound) this time last year with my head full of the melodies and bits of lyrics that were yet to come from the full lp (I only caved on Sequential when GR freebirded! How could I not? The rest I saved for the proper quality/release date)--laughed it off as if it's no big deal, you can't be a growth and the same as before, only you can fill those spaces, it's inside the one and all, for sure you got a beast on the inside, ain't fate just me, you can't come back to it---it was a time of glorious expectation for what the final forms would sound like...and that expectation was and continues to be beyond fulfilled.
The hardcore asmr-esque feeling/tingling I get from the music and words of this era is very much ekstasis--transcendent and transportative. At the not-enough-taken risk of sounding passionately hyperbolic (after all, it is a felt reality for me) in a time of ridiculously cheap investment in music (monetarily & emotionally... damn the hyperactive pacing of opining on the internet!), the GR songs are a triumphant and direct aural injection of psychedelic humanism electrified on an exponentially expanding 4D colour spectrum, to put it a little bit abstractly. Massive soul emissions and emanations every time.
i love how generous sonic boom and panda have been with these demos. One thing ive noticed lurking the message board is how little love "principe real" gets. No idea why it wasn't a single. It's hands down my favorite song on the album. The lyrics are beautiful and have help me cope with tough times in my life. Would love to hear a demo version.

Principe Real is such a banger
One of my favorites on the lp too, ATP version really clicked with me and I love the studio version too
PB did share a demo of this track...in 2012
Centipede Radio
1 mix each week by a different member leading up to the live stream of Centipede Hz
Panda's mix has a Principe Real demo and an otherwise unreleased short interlude track "Soft Serve Rip Curl"
looks like the demo got taken off of youtube, but the centipede radio broadcasts are all archived on AC's mixcloud account if you want to hear it
De rien copain ......
Still have a few minorly juicey bits.....
I have 1 ATP rehearsal full run thru for the ATP ....some versions are subjectively even better ....
The last 2 demos - CTYS & Butcher both have a rough wurdless vox....
Noah doesn't want them shared .....theyre really cool & uber blown out sounding .....
i think perhaps hes being overly shy , but its his demo & i respect that as i'm sure will you ladies
.......thinking aloud..... Fat lady might sing on xmas day......

by wordless vox, is it syllables/rhythm? the way pb enunciates his words has such a flair for rhythm and phrasing. i always imagined he kind of hummed out syllables and sounds to get the rhythm right and then wrote or rewrote words to fit.

Ctys - marvin gaye / dictionary of soul style murmurings - more like the slow live version - super extacy vibes ....
Bbcm - more 'ba pa pap pa pa' versions of the final vocals - he obviously got the melody
pretty pat pretty urly .....it sounds perfect -almost like samples of the mike Samme singers .,,,
Android VDub from mgmt used to do sick ruff vox where he'd sing a sort of nonesense but it sounds like words ......flash delirium was like that & ...for the brazilian sounding part of siberian breaks he sung the text of a cafe bustelo can .....and the chorus was 'cafe bus-tel-oo , doesn't hold back on flavor ' (or similar) every time ....but in spanish ...... Priceless ...such a killer record...
hey sonic! unrelated to the PB, but you got any sweet mgmt demos ? congratulations is one of my favorites : D
Yeah . Lots of bits & pieces .
But I dont think it'd be appreciated......
There was a whole other 'psych jams' lp they recorded too
was used as a trip playlist .....but i think it got lost......i could never find it ...

without sounding like a jerk, the discussion i think is not so much about technology but rather how we can break bonds with LCD mass produced shit that is shoved down our throat yet we with the freedom of the internet cannot find new cool music... that being said I did find animal collective through pandora
edit: never mind, your post is saying the same thing, d'oh!
