Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks were playing at the Lexington in London last night. They were great, really quite impressive.
Early on in the set, I saw some guy walk over to the sound desk with a girl. Turns out it's Panda Bear and his wife. I said "hi", but didn't want to bug them too much, so let them be.
After the gig, I stayed around drinking downstairs, and bumped into both Avey and Panda. Avey mentioned that Slasher Flicks are planning on writing a couple more songs and then hopefully recording something in August. Panda said that he's got some new material ready to try out (at ATP this weekend), and that it involves a lot of 1990s hip hop beats. Apparently, he likes A Tribe Called Quest.
In general, they were both really nice, friendly and happy to talk. Panda is incredibly humble. We were discussing how Down There is underrated, and he kept saying things like, "I wish I could make an album like that", to which I couldn't help but respond, "normally, if some guy at a bar said that, fair enough. But from the guy who wrote Person Pitch!?".

if i saw noah walking around i would shamelessly fanboy all over him and get a bunch of pictures at his inconvenience idgaf

The harp song almost sounds like his take on something from Scott 3.

Really enjoying this overall direction. I feel there's more playfulness to it, similar to the PP era, that was lacking from Tomboy.

Dude, the new stuff is insane! So glad we got a video of this but now I can't wait to hear more. Panda always keeps me inspired and that's something really special. I'm even hearing a lil bit of Paul McCartney in the fourth song - the vocal melody.

Wish you guys could hear the rest of the set! There were other songs that were even better imo.

On another note, I love how off-kilter everything in this song is
I really hope he doesn't try and fix it up /too/ much in the studio

Ahhh these are all so good! I wonder how many he played total? So far we have complete recordings of (almost) 5 of them and probably 2-3 small snippets of others.

Yeah I can't get over how incredible that above song is. The second half is just beyond words. Such a huge step up from the Tomboy stuff.

Hah no coincidence, Hash's brother and I did this.
We were all like "Excuse me sir but have you heard about Hashman? He loves you no matter what and he wants to have a personal relationship with you. Can I give you this pamphlet?"

does anyone else get a SERIOUS scott walker vibe from the second song? (the harpy one). I know Noah's mentioned him as an influence (let alone sampled him on "laughed for a world..." but this sounds so much like him, esp when he goes into the lower register.

wow. cannot wait to hear a cleaner version of this.

the bass track of song that he starts crossfading-into at the end sounds so sweet too. really would love to hear it, (+ the rest of the set hehe.)
