because on the earliest bootlegs of it we thought he was literally sample a vacuum cleaner during the song
Ha ok I remember I was trying to abstain from listening to anything but a couple of the songs before the album and always wondered why it was called that when I saw it on the list
Does anyone remember if PeteK said that they would try and release the pbvsgr visuals on dvd or something? I seem to remember him saying something vaguely along those lines but not entirely sure
i'm pretty sure he said it would get released in some form, i think he meant the website
Ooh yeah that would make sense. Also I just remembered that somebody rippe the video files from the website so whenever it goes down we'll still have em around

such as shame that Danny's visuals werent used in any of the official videos. I thought they were cooler than what was actually released (apologies to all).

tbh I feel the same way, I really wanted a come to your senses vid with the visuals he used at the show I saw. it was that really sensual clip with the blue women stroking each other.... it was really nice with the music lol
I'm in agreeance that Danny's visuals we're a bit cooler than what officially got released, though I can certainly see why they wouldn't work in the context of a "music video". Music videos typically work best as a means to tell a story, whereas the Grim Reaper live visuals were more like kaleidoscopic loops that augmented was was happening on stage. It's hard to imagine them divorced from that experience.
I think the greaper shows were/are just a super special experience, and will always be one of those "you had to be there" sort of things. As good as the album/subsequent music videos turned out, there's just no way to properly translate a 40 feet projection screen blasting crazy Danny Perez shit while next-level music gets pumped out of an 80,000 watt sound system and in to everyone's weed augmented ear holes.

Well I found out my wife of 5 years was cheating on me the week of the show and so I had to get a friend to go with me because I had tickets for both of us. It could be worse is the point I'm making.
I don't even live in Sydney anymore but would still be overjoyed to see PB down under (though for the record I saw him in LA and he still didn't play Selfish Gene)
I remember when I saw Selfish Gene live I was startled by these incredible, lethal, brutal BASS swells that on the record where just little bass rumbles... and the god damned strobes.... what a fucking show. PBvsGR really will be remember by the incredible live aspect. I wonder how people outside of this little box think of it...
It seemed to be a relatively polarizing record, though critically well-received. And to be honest, had I never heard any live recordings, I'd probably rate it a little lower as well.

You're sooooo right. This batch of songs excelled most during his live set. Even after seeing 4 PBvsGR shows, there was enough of a change up each time for things to always blow my mind. So many memorable audio/visual moments, though seeing him during the day at P4k was like only seeing a part of the real experience. The projections, lights, and minimal setup (for PB) were all the added genius touch
