stan i feel you. a lot of your criticisms are well-defined, it's just sometimes the magic that you feel live is still there in some form, just changed. like the other day i was listening to no mans land in the car and it sounded just like how i imagined it would've sounded after listening to atp like 2 years ago. it was a great moment, and it showed me that these songs are still the same, it's just they've got new outfits on and they seem different, but they are still the same person

A good system or good headphones really takes these song from amazing to transcendent.. makes it easier to hear the nuances in the production and shit like that

but i don't like this. i only liked the deak song on centipede. didn't like slasher flicks at all. only like 2 songs on grim reaper. (sad emoticon)

i kinda feel te same, although I still love all of AC's work before CPHZ.( I still cry, alot to their older songs, and they're one of my favourite bands ever, and I consider their albums, upto ODDSAC lifechanging) they were so magical, and somehow after ODDSAC I feel they lost something essential, sometimes it's because of the production, or the choice of sound, and alot of time it's just the songwriting ) I do almost like every song on Mr.Noah, PBMTGR and this EP but none of the songs even come close to anything on PP, MPP, ST, SJ, Feels, etc...etc..thy're just good songs, some are even really good, maybe one of them will even end in my top-10 list of songs of 2015. but that's just because Noah is fucking talented, but I feel that something important is left out. I really hope AC's next record will surprise me.

I understand how you guys feel about the stuff post-oddsac. I would agree with you on Avey and AC's output, but pbvsgr is pretty special to me. there's something really bubbly and electric about it, whereas chz seemed to just be the sonic equivalent to a tangled mess of wires under your desk. none of the songs on it are bad, theyre mostly quite good, but chz and slasher flicks feel so choked by production to me. thankfully, i dont feel that way at all about pbvsgr.

i do hope the next AC record will surprise me though. I'm sure we all do

It's great reading Pitchfork trying to form their own alternative history during reviews. Young Prayer, his "first record"

hey did you guys know that Pitchfork was launched in the year 2000? Kid A was actually their first proper album review

Devil's advocate, and its a big one considering what a pile of shit that EP review was, but maybe they're going for a major label debut "first album," and considering Soccer Star only put out PB's self titled, then changed to Animal to put out SPTGTV, then became Paw Tracks proper in 2003.

Self titled was basically a self released record. Again, just playing devil's advocate here.

devil's advocate's devil's advocate, Fat Cat has never been a major label

it still makes no sense to me. Pitchfork even reviewed that album back when it came out

It's such a terrible review. This line right here "there’s never a moment where you stop breathing for a second to zero in on the way Lennox skips up an interval, no tunes that won’t leave your head." The melody in No Mans Land, especially when he starts "So its getting busy living, or its getting busy dying," hit me so hard and deep that I started crying. The melody to that song, jabbawocky, and cosplay have been cycling in my head non-stop to the point I'm singing them unconsciously out loud. I can understand if on a personal level for him they didn't stick, but emotionally and on some many other levels it did for me, and he states that there is no tunes that won't leave your head as if it is a matter of fact empirical universal truth. Thats offensive, you can tell this guy really thinks so much of his opinions.

i think everyone is familiar with what a review is so its okay to write in a matter of fact way, he doesn't have to keep stating its just his opinion. idk.

The studio versions are always better imo because it is the artist's true intent. That doesn't take away from loving the raw aspects of the live show. Enjoy both!

With most other bands, I would agree, but the songs evolve so much over time that I think whatever version PB or AC plays live is the true intent. The Preakness is a very good example of this. Would you say the keep tape version was the true intent, or the live version he played for 2 years after that release, that he ended up recordin and rereleasing on Crosswords?

Yes AC is sort of tricky there. I just love their studio work so much. Just my preference. Like I said, that's not a slight on the live shows because I also enjoy the arrangements. A big reason AC is my fav music is because both offer unique qualities.

Kind of a bad example. The Keep tape was more of a demo. And like you said, he rereleased it, which backs up rampface's point.

personally i think they do a great job taking advantage of the tools and environment of the studio and separately, the environment and tools of a live setting. not sure if there is a true single version of things. the way they approach the art of music is that it is a living organism that evolves over time with different tools. so what you hear is just a snapshot in time of where that organism is.

Kinda off topic, but does anyone have a link to the PB bootlegs? Someone posted one a while ago, but I lost it. I'm looking for the one that begins with that screaming sample from 50/50 and ends with cosplay and it all flows together.

Thanks for your help.

It's not that hard, the song titles are just upside down

If you don't look at the top and bottom pixeled/glitched rows, you can read it.
