^I laughed openly at both of those comments, and Michael's as well

I interpreted Avey's 'it will sound very Animal Collective' comment as him buzzing off a question he didn't want to answer, due to his alcoholism

Just thought... It'll be called Songs For Jerome with Panda harmonising in all the spaces from the DT unreleased songs.

or "panda bear meets geologist and avey" where geo and avey harmonize on all the songs that didn't make grim reaper
or an amalgam of those two ideas... "everyone meets jerome"

Honestly, it does feel a bit weird that they've finished an album and we're going into a new "era" of material and we have no idea what it sounds like lol. I guess that's because we were along for every step of the process with PBVSGR. we're spoiled having PK around

someone made a thread on CA4 about combining the tracklists of Down There and Tomboy and it was very entertaining

Can anyone confirm that they wrote separately and then came together to flesh things out? And how long they were working together on this thing? I am so scared that they didn't tour with any of this material; it seemed that was a core of their writing process. Is there any other album that they did that with? Early ones like Spirit and Campfire maybe? Can you imagine them truncating their writing process from years to months? I am excited tho.
Noah said he was writing new AC material around the time PBVSGR came out, so it's at least been 6 or 7 months of song gestitation, which seems like a solid time frame. The other two probably have been writing or gathering sounds for even longer
And Spirit is the only full length album that we know of that was never tested out beforehand on tour. There were a couple campfire songs shows in NYC in 2001
I think it's great that fans are getting scared about the lack of a pre-tour before recording. It shows that the boys are still able to genuinely surprise us. I don't really think the band ever set out to follow a certain writing process for every single album. The only thing that remains constant throughout every release and era is that they like to try new things and mix it up each time

I'm just disturbed that fans are getting scared. Like, of all bands to be a fan of, AC seem like the worst band to be a fan of and want them to stick to a tried and true winning strategy.I don't want them to stagnate, and sticking with the same process every time would help that happen much more quickly. But so far, for the most part, they've been pretty good at doing weird stuff and mixing things up.

well! Ave and Noah are two of the most focused, dedicated and creative vocalists and along with Geo, instrumentalists and songwriters, sound composers! Geo is really a vocalist too i think, using his sound devices as a paranormal shapeshifting voice.
Trying to write that about the musicians we think are on this newy; now also Deakin, along with them, he too has been part of some of the most uplifting, transformative, delicious and timeless music projects/albums in recent memory; using guitar in as ego-free manner as possible yet with the feeling that it is coming from a benevolent creature the size of a cosmos dwelling giant, or an ancient tree!
they bring a lot of energy that would otherwise be missing in music whether it is from nature or just areas of human/animal consciousness that does not always make its way into music, and, also seem to be able to tell when new music feels real enough, and a new path for them either as solo artists or as a group, to be part of an album or project!

What if the album takes inspiration from daftpunks discovery. And makes it a very sample heave album. BUT the twist is they are sampling their recent solo works.

Yes. There was no room to breathe on the last album.
Also, the album had the most straight forward song structures of anything they've ever done. I hope they revert back to at least a few freeform structured tracks

If they do really spacious chilled out stuff like that I hope there's still a pulse, like a gentle kick or something. Bees and daffy duck are good but I find them hard to latch onto with how smooshy they are

speaking of spacious/chilled-out vibes, i wouldn't complain if they did a whole album in the vein of "loch raven"

What I'm hoping because they haven't toured with anything yet is that it sounds so hella they're just rolling with it.
Also judging by the Make Noise equipment they seem to be using I would guess that there will be a lot of bloopy sounds on the album.
But thats not a crazy assumption.

I think more than anything, I hope the new sound lends itself nicely to some killer reworks of some classics. That was one of the best parts of the MPP era.
I want them to finally bring back Reverend Green, Grass, and Turn Into Something. Loch Raven would be great too.

I wonder if they haven't toured the album first because PB is knackered. As in, it was time to start jamming for a new record, and Panda wanted a break from touring so that influenced their direction.

That could have a lot to do with it. He's been touring off and on for a long time. You can tell it's starting to get to him, he looks super tired.

I saw him for the first time at Pitchfork and was kinda disappointed. I had "lost" my keys (long story) and my friends and I were all on edge so that might have had something to do with it. Also, there were a ton of people in the crowd just messing around/smoking/etc. He did look really tired, only played 8 songs and after starting one (can't remember which) he stopped it and said something like "I fucked that one up." Real bummer when I found out he played the next night at an actual venue as I was staying in Chicago for the weekend and could have probably seen a better show.

PB looks like a normal 37 yr old dad. And he didn't play the night after his Pitchfork set, it was the night before, which was in retrospect a better show since the projection screen was above him and the strobes were 10x better in a dark room. Still thought his fest set was great though. Only qualm was that Come to your Senses shouldve been replaced with Mr. Noah or YCCOM to pump up the crowd more
On a side note, I would love if the new jams had some ambient Aphex Twin vibes to them. Very danceable and very melodic
