Hi everyone! I'm a longtime lurker, but finally decided to make an account to talk about this.
I just recently listened to the 2008 Glasslands boot and holy shit, it is so incredible. I can't believe this is the only time they ever performed this material! Especially the "Walked Like A Dog" part, jesus.
I was wondering if anyone had any theories as to how the main guitar sound is being achieved. Not the one that sounds like it has just some tremolo and delay on it (I think Deakin's?) but the one that sounds sort of rubbery, the first one to come in around the 8 minute mark. I've been trying to figure out how one would achieve that sound all week, it's been driving me crazy!
Also, do any recordings exist where Kria's accordion is is louder in the mix, or is there only the NYC Taper one?
Thanks!

This is one of the greatest pieces of music I've ever heard. I cry every time.
I feel certain for some reason that my wife to be will develop dementia, and I'll live with it until she dies. It makes me appreciate the times we have now. I love life.

It's honestly incredible. When they play that out of scale chord and Avey sings "Is dementia so kind?" I get all tingly on the back of my neck. The entire structure of that song is fantastic.
And yea man, I love life too!

Def one of the top 5 most essential boots IMO.
Especially since they were never turned into studio tracks (disregarding the parts lifted into Mr.Fingers). But holy fuck if they went back to this sound on the new LP..............
Seems like guitars are using a bunch of flanger and delays. I cant think of what else would get that tone.
This is the only boot that we know of. There is a short 1-2 minute video on youtube where you see them playing to the beginning scene in Oddsac and Kria's accordion is heard better. Its weird that we dont hear it as well on this boot. I wonder if its because everything else is drowning her out, or if she effected her accordion and its just well layered in the mix?

Wow I had no idea that existed. So at one point in time there was the possibility of an Avey/Doctess/Deakin Anco Album?

Just listened to this recording for the first time a few days ago, <3 <3 <3.
But why are there people talking throughout the whole thing? Is it part of the background of the song? It's hard to imagine the audience not being completely mesmerized by this performance. Not to mention that it's kind of rude to the performers.

Less people were probably talking than it seemed, if only because all sounds end up being recorded by the Rebel mic.
I can't think of a more disastrous example of such a phenomenon than this video:
