Hah! This quote here is awesome:
wrote:
But for all its booming breaks and future-shocked freneticism, Grim Reaper—like all Panda Bear records—remains a highly insular experience, one where it often sounds as if Lennox is speaking into a mirror. "So good, you’ve got it so good," he sings overtop the blissed-out shuffle of "Crosswords"—a simple statement of fact from a happily married father of two who lives in a cosmopolitan coastal European city in between sold-out tours.

Some kind of a mild jab lol.

Fuckn Berman

Really though, that was a pretty solid review. idgaf bout no 1-10 ratings, but the read is fun. Congrats Noah and Pete on this whole ordeal. Loved watching all of this unfold and it's great to see huge recognition for this beautiful piece of work.

my lp has not arrived yet, but Im sure tomorrow

And hey are they just not going to review Mr. Noah EP? Don't they usually do that kind of shit? When they didn't do it back it November I figured they'd do them both at release.

pfork are a buncha pansies, but i guess 8.7 is above the 4 star average this album has going so far so that's good. I really expected a 9.0 from them though, and would give it a bit higher myself.

It got it's ok, no need to be upset. 9 or 8.7 doesn't change a thing, a lot of people are gonna listen to it.

I like when people use imagery like this for music. this is image.. works for a few parts and I see where he's coming from

edit; damn, that was a really good read. pretty much all praise from what I could see! a very cool viewpoint.

I thought higher too but, if you look at Metacritic, it's actually one of the highest scores: http://www.metacritic.com/music/panda-b ... ic-reviews

I didn't want to know P4k's numerical rating for fear of it subconsciously affecting my view of the album. Oh well, I guess I should have expected the score to pop up in this thread

I'd say it deserves at least a 9, but for me I think the larger problem is numerical ratings in general, which I don't think are a good method of evaluating music. But I digress...

i think pitchfork should lose the point increments. and just use a 10-point scale. simplified. straight to the point and impactful reviews. never a fan of the 100-point scale anyway, which it basically is. it's too fine. used to be so turned off by gaming websites that used it. like, is a 9.0 game really better than an 8.9 game?

anyway, it's quite nice to see favorable reviews. im sure team panda's feeling pretty pumped.

Maybe they should just get rid of the point system all together, force people to read the reviews and maybe make their own assumptions.

I was a bit interviewed out, but this was great.

Didn't want it to get lost in the shuffle.

Man if Geoff Barrow had had a hand in Tomboy... Third (by Portishead, and one of the best albums of the 00s) has a super similar vibe now that I think on it.

does anyone else have it set up in their music player where the demo version of cosplay comes on after acid wash? it works so well as a little slightly irreverent "epilogue" to the album, esp with the apocalypse now/drone ending

These 24 bit recordings that I got with the DL code from Domino are super revealing. Noah's vocals have never been clearer/cleaner. The production really stands out - really great space and separation between the different instruments and samples, creating really interesting and beautiful soundscapes. Great work, Noah and Pete! Thanks so much for your hard work.

The more I think of which track I would most like to hear on Fallon, the more I keep thinking Crosswords would be the surest bet. Then again, who knows which one he'll choose. I expected either Slow Motion or Surfer's Hymn last time around and we got You Can Count On Me instead soooo it's anyone's guess. I'm just really into Crosswords lately.

crosswords and lonely wanderer are the best tracks on the album IMO. crosswords in particular went from being my 6th or 7th favorite on the record to perhaps my #1. awesome song

crossroads has really catapulted up for me too. i just can't help but imagine what it would have been like to have a longer intro with the beat drop though.

i honestly think this album is panda's strongest material to date and i feel good about him rolling into AC sessions this hot. it's all gold.

Yeah, I'm certainly not upset and I'm glad it will get exposure. That's the most important thing.

But I also don't want Noah to think people think this is a B album. This shit is an A.

They aren't rating the album, they're rating their opinion on the album.

The album is as good or as bad and you want it to be, you can assign any number you want it doesn't mean the album is that good. Y'dig?
