I doubt he'd be able to clear that. It belongs to The Mouse now.

i don't think the drone at the end of the live sets is the Deep Note, it sounds like it was constructed with whatever Noah used to make the tones in Drone, i think he should be fine.
Apocalypse Now sample is a completely different story

that would be cool!
I tried to get us to start working towards finalizing things but no one responded to what I said.
i know

i think the problem is there isn't anyone who's leading the project so no one is making the move to send the stuff to sonic. we have at least one version of every track already, i think we should just send him everything and see what he puts together or else it'll never happen. i'll post this in that thread as well

I wish crosswords was mixed a little differently, like with the "doo doo dee" noises louder. (like in the live rips)

Lonely wanderer is soooo good the only thing is I don't know how I feel about the abrupt last minute of static. Feels a little sudden and excessive.

not gonna listen to the freebird too much more, just don't feel like it. I love it but I'm just gonna listen to other stuff until the real thing comes to my door.

on second listen i don't like quite a lot of this album. it just does nothing for me. I feel like they put all the best tracks (Mr noah ep, popadam and heart and soul) on their own things, leaving the less good stuff for the album. taking out no hitters like sequential circuits (meh) butcher maker candlestick maker (meh), cutting some of come to your senses (there's no need for it to be 7 frickin minutes), selfish gene (meh) and acid wash (sounds like a national anthem) and replacing them with the EP tracks would make this album a lot better imo.
But this is only from two listens, it'll probably grow on me.

I feel you on a lot of that. Honestly, most of the tracks sound like demo versions. Like they were recorded over a weekend. I can't believe that no one else thinks that panda is flat the first time he sings "laughed" in Tropic of Cancer. Do you hear that?

nah but a lot of the vocal things annoy me as well. the low bits especially ('hey hey hey' on mr noah, 'has a' on boys latin). the tinny robotic backing vocal on principe reel almost ruins the song, and there's a bit i only just noticed on boys latin(?) where he caps off a verse or something with a random high note, and it sounds ridiculous.

Long time lurker here. I've been following along with the live bootlegs and uncovering of info from petek's riddles. It's been a fun ride. Yesterday I downloaded a freebirded version of the album and gave it a listen. I laid on my back with a blanket over the top half of my face, put some headphones on, closed my eyes and pressed play. Here were/are my impressions so far..
1. Sequential Circuits - Felt like such an appropriate opening. Put me in a space like 'something is coming', or 'we are about to take off'. The sound at the end of the track, like a deep, robotic voice... I remember feeling kinda scared for a sec, but then I was like 'i will go with you, i will see what you want to show me'...
2. Mr Noah - A track I was familiar with from the EP. I've been singing it since the first listen. To me, it's a massive and powerful track whose sound reminds me of a transformer from those new transformer movies and whose lyrics remind me of my life as a human man. This album version sounded even better than the EP version. It seemed like there were some more subtle sounds, and the intro with the dogs barking was longer.
3. Davy Jones' Locker - I thought this was an extension of Mr Noah... Wasn't sure what was going on, then all of a sudden Crosswords comes in pretty harshly. (I imagine this will be different on the domino release)
4. Crosswords - Took me a sec to shake off that immediate jump into this track, then I recognize it from the bootlegs as one of my most anticipated jams. I mainly focus on the vocals as I imagine the music scrolling by and Panda riding these really cool melodies that go in patterns you don't really expect, but sounds so cool!
5. Butcher Baker Candlestick Maker - This was a really cool experience. I've never heard a bootleg of this song so this was a completely new sound. Dude, when that little pick-up sound before the chorus came in around 45 seconds into the track I couldn't help but start wiggling around. To me this is a dance track, and I love it. *side note: i'm really looking forward to reading the lyrics on this one.
6. Boys Latin - I recognized this one from the boots. To be honest, this was not one of the tracks I was most looking forward to. For some reason this track doesn't do much for me yet, but I know how sometimes music grows on you and maybe I am just not ready for this one.
7. Come to Your Senses - One of the most memorable moments from the bootlegs was hearing the slow, uphill progress of the chorus in this song. It makes me feel strong. I could nod my head along to this track forever.
8. Tropic of Cancer - I was psyched to see how this one turned out. I heard those horns at the beginning and the gusts of wind come in and that's what this song is to me. It's a gust of wind that rolls along in the night made up of the souls of those lost. Oh, and I remember thinking 'these are the clearest vocals i've ever heard' (from panda/AC) which made the track more accessible (I could understand all the lyrics without looking them up).
9. Shadows of the Colossus - Noise break.
10. Lonely Wanderer - Another NEW sound to my ears. I visualized an old two story house with a never-ending staircase that spirals down. The piano here reminds me of Safer. Then there is that erie bass hit at the bottom of the staircase. Another kinda scary track that left me feeling uneasy. It fit right in with the themes in the album and I liked the simplicity of the lyrics.
11. Principe Real - Another track that I was familiar with and that always makes me groove. On the album, this track has changed a lot. I was quite attached with the bootleg version. I remember thinking that the vocals don't really sound like panda. I kinda hope that this track is different on the domino release. Don't get me wrong tho, it's still a jam.5
12. Selfish Gene - This song picked me up right off the bat and brought me to a field of twinkling stars in outer space. And we stay there throughout the whole song. "Only you can feel those spaces". "You'll trip up again, you'll get up again". This song just makes me feel good. It's kind of a confidence booster.
13. Acid Wash - Another NEW sound. Felt like we are marching away from a battle victoriously. Triumphant sounds. Then this freakin' otherwordly beam of particles and waves shoots up into the sky for a moment. Then we march again. Then the beam fires again.. And the album ends.
I plan on purchasing the album when it gets released. Love you guys. Peace. Thanks Panda. Thanks Sonic Boom for sharing the inside scoop!

ha ha i dunno howardjtmoon that just seems like an arbitrary selection of some quirky moments of the album. i think it's full of quirks. no quirk less inherently valid than another. dog barks and all. (man i love those dogs. lots of dogs and foot injuries on this album.)

yeah i get that pb's not going for a serious thing here (the album title being an indicator). just doesn't really jel with me, but it might one day.
I think me not liking this LP is just coming from my changing musical tastes recently.

the next imaginary ep that might never exist HAS to start with the 50/50 sample and end with THX drone. With Popadam, Jabawaqy and Faces and Cosplay in between! Maybe even Preakness!!!!

I like what you guys are saying about the quirks...I agree entirely.
This is a very idiosyncratic record in that it has a very club-styled element to it but has more or as many goofs and fun moments as any other PB or AC record. This is one of those records that shows me how much game PB is bringing to the AC party...Which is a HUGE chunk. With a treat-uh.
I love how some people have suggested the whole pre-produced tracks that PB is just singing over...kind of like kareoke...Which I really LOVE about this record...It almost gives a throwback-to-a-time-that-never-existed type of feel. Some of it's corny, but it's suppose to be...The album is about as cheesy as a game of Pac-Man something else from that era...
Also as someone else mentioned, a lot of talk of dogs and leg injuries here? Something I noticed from reading through all the lyrics yesterday.
Very fun stuff. I am loving this record, and a couple of my friends who aren't into PB or AC have gotten pretty into tracks like Crosswords, Butcher, Boys Latin and Principe...
Once again, thanks Petek for doing this for us, and thanks PB for this incredible, beautiful, inspiring songs. Life is tough, and these guys are here to help guide us through our most blissful moments and our most difficult times...You guys and your crew have done really profound work here and it deserve every accolade it is certain to receive.

Man, I think I'm totally obsessed with this album after listening all day at work yesterday. I definitely felt some disappointment on first listen (why doesn't this sound like the boots? So much reverb!) but started to accept and then embrace all the differences with each listen.
I don't have much to add to what everyone's already said but I love how varied the album is; every song is very distinct from all the others a number of the tracks (Mr Noah, Boys Latin, Tropic of Cancer, Principe Real) are totally unlike anything else Noah's ever done, which is also exciting.
There are so many awesome little touches that make this a treat (uh!) to listen to. The "while" exchange on BBCM, the ghostly response vocals at the climax of Tropic, the way he belts "darkness" for the last time in Boys Latin all made me smile on first listen. Lonely Wanderer was such a delightful surprise as well, I definitely wasn't expecting one of the new-new songs to sound like that, especially following Tropic I expected something more upbeat but it is so beautiful and gives Principe more impact.
The only song I'm not totally sold on yet is Acid Wash, pretty much for the reasons you guys have already mentioned, it comes off as a little cheesy but I think it does work in following Selfish Gene and closing the album. I've warmed up to it some since my first listen so hopefully it'll continue to grow!

First thought: really lo-fi. Second thought: surprised and confused at some of these drums. Third thought: Noah's voice is bare and vulnerable and untouched (apart from the reverb obv) as we've ever heard it, even on young prayer.
Overall first listen sounds sort of like an uptempo dance record that was made while swimming very slowly under water.

On his voice it seems like in the past records he was layering his voice more to fill it out and warm it up a bit. Certainly on PBVGR his voice is a lot more exposed and up front, more personal but less warm maybe.
