What the fuck happened to heart and soul????? That was my fav of the set.
either the popular bside opinion, ep, or AC designated... how cool would that be. I agree. That was the bst one. BUT now that I have heard the album I agree it didnt fit with everything else

I have to agree with everyone saying jabberwocky was the best song. The first time I heard the boots that one really stuck out and it was by far my most anticipated track. So even though this freebirded there is still something to look forward to I guess.
Listening to the boots does definitely lead to moments of dissapointment, but can I just say how great it felt to finally sing "only you can fill those spaces" along to a studio version? It is definitely great to finally get to hear the finished versions of songs you have come to know over such a long time.
I'm definitely not listening to any freebird, I paid close to $70 for the special edition and I love Pete and Noah too much to ruin my January experience
Very disappointed this freebirded. the low quality is definitely apparent.
Anyway, this is probably the best album of all time. principe real is better than i even could have hoped. acid wash is somehow probably a better closer than benfica. i didn't love crosswords or butcher baker from the boots but here they're both seriously incredible. so many sounds throughout the album. lots and lots of sounds
e: the new vocal harmonies on sequential circuits jesus christ
where are the ctys and crosswords beat drops, those made those tunes for me. not crazy into ctys despite it being my fav from the boots. gah. makes me nervous for jabberwocky.
So PK spends nearly a year giving fans tidbits on an anticipated album and some of you guys pay him back by downloading it two months early without even paying for it.
Frumpkin, I feel u about the beat drops. Same goes for Ms Pacman/Faces in the Crowd. In the end, I trust Noah and PK's judgement since they spent so long preparing and recording this material, and obviously put a lot of thought into those kinds of decisions. I suppose I'm trying to think of the live versions and the studio versions as separate things so I can appreciate both. Not saying it was easy at first, but I'm embracing the lack of beat drops, and I'm still digging those songs.
man....
i just hate that i listened to the boots before the album. i hate that i can sing along to the songs on this album the first time i'm listening to them. i wish it was a surprise....
i vow never to listen to any boots!!!!
Just finished my first listen and holy shit that was good. I really enjoyed the layered vocals on Sequential Circuits. Crosswords is every bit as good as I had hoped/dreamed. Butcher Baker turned out fantastic. Boys Latin shreds. I prefer the studio version of Come To Your Senses. To me, its just like how much Faces In The Crowd improved over time. Tropic of Cancer: nailed it. Lonely Wanderer reminds me of Cuckoo Cuckoo and its damn good. Principe Real is also every bit as good as I had hoped/dreamed. Selfish Gene is stellar. Acid Wash is the sound of the entire world throwing a parade honoring Mr Noah for defeating the Grim Reaper. It reminds me of the victory music at the end of Mario Kart 64.
on my 4th listen through, Acid Wash literally made me tear up. I'm exactly why but it just felt so right to end the album on that note. It's already in my top 3 favs of this album. wow.

for real. at first i was disappointed selfish gene/nadir wasn't ending it, but after hearing acid wash for the first time, i knew it was the right choice. needs to end on that quasi-triumphant note.
1st. PB's vocal performances sound way off. The effects and re-verb they put on his voice are both annoying and serve only to move his already lackluster vocals further into something very underwhelming and unspectacular. It's the first time Panda Bear's vocals have sounded bad to me.
2nd. He has removed everything that made his live performances memorable. Ignoring the vocals here, the big disappointments for me here is the lack of the beat drop in Crosswords and the fact that he sings throughout the entirety of that song. The instrumentals in that song are great but now it's all overshadowed by this boring and lackluster vocal performance. Then there's Boys Latin. That first preview of the 'but we don't' part of Boys Latin is how the vocals for the song should sound. Again the song is drenched in cheesy and annoying effects. Come To Your Senses lacks the drop that made it so memorable when I heard it live. Furthermore the percussion is borderline annoying. Poor vocal performance on Tropic of Cancer. Hard for me to listen to those two songs for 14 minutes even though they were 2 of my favourites live. And the last song I will rip on is Selfish Gene. That song was so great live, now it sounds like he used a stock plugin on a sampler for the chord progression. It sounds pretty unprofessional and at times annoying and again the effects on the vocals cause the song to lose touch with the emotions I used to associate it with.
Principe Real sounds pretty good I guess and Mr Noah is cool but he already released that on the EP.
6/10 at best right now. Maybe I will like it more as time goes on but right now I can't help but feel this has been the biggest disappointment from an album that I have ever experienced.
@stonewall^ does it help at all to know that this is definitely the exact way that pb (and sonic) wanted it to be tho?
i could see where taking the drops out in crossword and ctys and having a constant beat instead could be jarring, but i think it works better for the purposes of the albums momentum. sometimes overly dynamic songs suffer for me in terms of listenability, so i like that theyre a little more steady. a bit like mpp kinda
