We have the lyrics to Acid Wash and the chords to Lonely Wanderer (or vice versa), right? Would anyone be up for just doing a blind cover for each song using what Sonic has given us on photobucket? I think that could be really cool.

I think this is a really neat idea!

I can't wait until everyone's finished and I can just play this like the album. Everyone has done a really good job on their tracks.

Okay, the instrumental sounds EXTREMELY familiar. From a game, like Animal Crossing, or Mario Paint or something. I know this is a very generic Lounge sound going on with the keys, but the actual progression itself is seriously killing me.

Can someone help me pinpoint what its reminding me of?

clayton you're not alone, i thought the same exact thing when i heard it and it's been driving me crazy, also my very first thought was animal crossing when i heard it, so maybe it actually is something from that that we're reminded of. (the original/wild world were the only ones i had so it must be reminiscent of something from that)

I feel like the cover is the baby of this song and the Wii Store theme (honestly though I have no idea what I'm talking about)

edit: it's absolutely got "girl from ipanema"s genes too. maybe you've heard it one of those two places

Just learned Boys Latin is one step higher than my cover. Will be fixing that for my final version. And I will also be getting help from a friend to record the vocals as he has a far better mic than I do and is more experienced with recording.

So all in all, my cover of Boys Latin will be 100% completed by Thursday night.

Here's my (work in progress) instrumental track for Boys Latin. Just some adjusting of effects, volume and adding vocals left to go. Should be done around the middle of this week.

I saw Panda Bear perform this song live in Toronto and at the time it was by far my favourite. Loved working on it thus far.

And Victor, even though your similarity is driving me absolutely insane (I've put about an hours work into trying to figure out what it is) your cover really broke down and made clear a song on PBVSGR that I really didn't like, and I think the simplicity of your version is helping grasp the actual version. That may make the difference of this being my favourite PB album, so thanks.

Haha, now you all have me wondering what subconsciously influenced my cover. I most definitely had the Wii store background music in mind, although I didn't consult it directly or try to take specific chord changes from it. The Girl From Ipanema was also a point of reference—it pretty much forms my entire conception of what a Bossa Nova should sound like (as it probably does for 99% of Americans)

Other than that, it's hard to say what else the chords sound similar to. They're pretty much all ii-V-I (the basic building block of countless songs), but that's something you can find in almost any jazz standard, so there are tons of songs that sound at least partially similar.

Glad you guys like it, although I apologize if it's driving some people mad :mmhmm: and Clayton, I'm glad I might help you learn to love the song (and album)!

edit: I'm just now remembering—didn't one of the iterations of Tom Nook's store feature a bossa nova/lounge-type song as the background music? The big store, when it's like a supermarket...I can't remember, I'll try finding it. Also, I'm glad we all happen to share a love of Nintendo games :)

edit #2: this was the jazz version of Nook's store music, kinda similar organ sound, but otherwise I don't think it was a reference point:

Thanks for the support guys! Like I said I saw him play Boys Latin live as part of his Toronto show in May (I didn't mention I hadn't heard any of his new material yet) and my aim was to produce a track that sounds as powerful and hard-hitting as Boys Latin initially sounded to me. When I heard the song start and then the call/response vocals I was sold. Just another one of his stellar new tracks.

This is great! Also reminds me a lot of Casino vs Japan, who actually used to be on Carpark records (which is run by the same dude as Paw Tracks). Weird connection, but a connection nonetheless. Here's the album I'm thinking of.

I posted a cover of Tropic of Cancer a little while ago but I'm in the middle of redoing the vocals, as I just bought a new vocal mic. Super clean. Big upgrade. When are we thinking about sending tracks to SB for mastering? It would be cool if it coincided with the actual release in some way.

yeah, i'm mad
with a treat
you made a bunch you bet
and you'll make more
go on and make some more
but you won't
no you won't
ever make that one again
you don't make that one again
don't make that again
it's the last time
it's inside the one and all
are you mad?

i remember the first time he played it on the bootleg it was titled 'Not Too Bad' :mmhmm:
