I've been saying that ST is my favourite AC album for a long time.
but today I cried along almost every track*, in the bus on my way home, tears of joy and melancholia. and now I'm not so sure anymore. not that I want to rate every album highest/lowest or anything, just spreading my feels of love for Feels.
It is their "love" album. And a masterpiece it is.
There's not a song on there that doesn't reach down deep into your skin and have this tingling sensation rush throughout your entire body. It's called the Animal Collective effect and every album produces that
I think Feels has some of the best ambient/spacey song moments i.e. Bees, Daffy Duck, Loch Raven. I love when they would just take a feeling, throw it up in the air and kind of carve a vocal melody into it but everything was still loose and free for it to just kind of hang in the air. It's a beautiful thing.
feels is beyond delicious. i love listening to it in the spring/summer; the more ambient tracks are really enjoyable when i'm cruising around on my bike.
Banshee Beat provokes so many emotions for me that I don't even understand. The idea that feeling anything at all is better than being dead is a concept that keeps me going throughout the day. Also the idea of a metaphorical "swimming pool" being a relief from regular day-to-day problems as well as more complex internal and external issues is another idea that just makes me want to keep going even when everything is wrong. Also, finding my "swimming pool" is also a distraction from all the things that are bad. This entire album is a perfect to represent all the different feelings that everyone deals with each day, even the ones we don't understand.
Banshee Beat is easily one of my favorite songs of all time. And honestly it took me years and years to appreciate the beauty of that track, but man when it clicked, it was life changing.
this is my review of Feels on rym: My eyeballs are bleeding apple sauce and my finger nails have turned into halved grapes. My feet are melting into the concrete and my mouth is drooling ginger honey.
feels was actually the 1st album i heard by them when i was like 15 and i understand it a whole lot more now than i did at the time. oh man, banshee beat is also one of my favorite songs off that album and ever. hits me pretty hard in my soul. it reminds me of the journey coming out of youth and growing in and out of love with a childlike kind of perspective. but then again a lot of their music does that for me. i agree with you myles. i didnt understand that song fully until much later
That guitar timbre that goes through pretty much all of Feels is just so nice and it pretty much hasn't been used anywhere else. I didn't appreciate Flesh Canoe until one day when i was really tired and all the sounds felt like they were rushing through me and jumping around my head and i could hear all the layers flowing together and it was perfect. I mean the songs are among the best they've ever written but just the general sound of this album (textures, samples etc..) puts it in my top 3 AC releases.

i feel like that happens to me a lot with animal collective songs...i really have to be in the right mindset to truly appreciate some of their songs.
I like to think that the note that Panda hits at the end of Flesh Canoe is just him saying "awwwwwww" because he thought that Avey's lyrics were cute.
Also, I've been having some great times with this album lately. This might sound silly, but I've been listening to AC for about 5 years now and The Purple Bottle just clicked with me in a way that it never has before. It's pretty much all because I finally heard Deakin's guitar line during the "can I tell you that you are the purple in me" part. And omg. I don't expect anyone else to be effected the same way by such a relatively small, almost subliminal part of the song, but it kinda blew my mind. It just compliments the song so beautifully and honestly made me listen to the whole thing in kind of a different light. Their chemistry as a band is just so superb throughout the entire album. They're somehow able to make each song jam packed with these wonderful hidden details, yet it always sounds like each member is only contributing what they need to to bring out the mood of the song.
at the time of recording feels, panda didn't know flesh canoe was about him. I bet avey was like "hey, why don't you end the song with a nice aaaaw?"
panda unknowingly agreed and avey still laughs about it :>
"Flesh Canoe" and "Turn Into Something" still wreck me
When I first heard the album like, fuck, seven (eight?) years ago, my favorites were "Banshee Beat" and "Did You See The Words." And "Grass," of course. That was the song that got me into AC. I downloaded the song off iTunes and played it 30 times in a row on my fam's desktop speakers in our basement.
It's all about the Sound of that record. And Kria's piano deserves some major lovin.
