Serious question: Has Deakin lost the confidence to make music? He doesn't play any shows any more, he doesn't release any of the stuff he's recorded, he was on CHz, the worst AC record, penning the most panned AC song ever written. This is probably the most awkward and difficult time for him as a musician. Has he simply stalled?

I mean
I know that's framed as a serious question but it kind of seems like every single complaining post about Deakin's project ever

OK. The band aren't making music at the moment. Dave has started a new band, written a load of songs, toured extensively and released an album. Noah has apparently recorded two albums worth of material and toured. What has Josh done since the band took their standard break? Nearly sent out some posters for a five year old project? What happened to the touring? Is he writing? Recording? He's released nothing since he first started writing and performing solo.

He is recording, maybe he finished by now, and played a song of his on the DJ tour

2 songs on TTG and 1 song on CHz Edit: plus 1 on keep cassette
After reading your posts about Wide Eyed no wonder he's taking forever to put out more music.

Call me a naive pleb or whatever you want, but I thoroughly enjoyed Wide Eyed and Chz and I honestly don't care when his record comes out even if it never comes out. If the album is good people will underrate it and forget about it, if it's sub-par people will make a meme and complain about Deakin even more. I can see why he doesn't want to release it.

it seems like he's put a lot of pressure on himself in the past (from what i get in his interviews). and the whole deakin meme thing would freak me out if i were him.

Thanks for the info. I think his songs were the highlights of TTG, in fact, and Country Report was really promising, too. Glad to hear he's played a recorded solo song recently.
I didn't say Wide Eyed was no good, I said it was the most criticised song off CHz. I'll retract that. It's based on nothing. My personal least favourite is Father Time or Monkey Riches.

True that, critics didn't like it (CHz/Wide Eyed) and anyone on here can hate that song for what ever reasons. They can dislike or be bored by CHz or any other AC album. I just wanted to say that I enjoyed the album and that song.

Some shows would definitely ease the wait! Bummed I wasn't able to catch one back when he was touring.

isn't it like, their best-reviewed album?

um, no.
no it is not their best reviewed album. that would be Merriweather Post Pavilion.
http://www.metacritic.com/person/animal-collective
out of all their new albums that have metascores (Sung Tongs onward), Centipede Hz has the lowest score, at 74. Merriweather has the highest, at 89.
Stanshant wasn't talking about critical acclaim anyway, he just meant it's his least favourite album of theirs.

Burrito Hz is still one of my favorite albums of the past 5 years. It really is a grower imo, it takes time to get use to the mixing and the clutter of "ingredients" on the album.

my metacritic says Chz has 75
significant only cause its not identical to the pfork score

i'm listening to it right now thanks to this thread and its so good
like i always thought it was great but its better than i ever realized or remember. i feel like i'm understanding the songs i didn't really like way more, they all make total sense now.
might put on slasher flicks next...

Imo Slasher Flicks is CHz 2. I mean thematically it is a bit different and a couple songs are not really in the same style, but 50% of the album definitely reminds me of CHz.
Also, Voven, it definitely is cool when you "get" an AnCo album, for me it was my dislike of HCTI for 3 years or so, now I love it.

also: it's unfair to make the assumption that there isn't a good reason that he hasn't released anything yet, we don't know what's going on in his personal life

he hasn't released anything yet because he hasn't finished anything yet. that is the reason.

because it's taken him longer than he thought it would. I don't know why people care so much about his reasons.

because deaking is the king of animal collective and he's been letting his fans down now for the past couple years. honestly if I donated money to his kickstarter and he pulled the shit that he did, I would personally punch him in the face at the next show I see him at.
