A coworker of mine is dudes with on of the bros, and therefore he got an advanced copy of Painting With. He couldn't give me a copy (respect) but he let me listen to it on my lunch break an it was amazing. Seriously such a great record. Sonically it reminded me a lot of the Water Curses EP. The playfulness in the vocal swapping brought me back to Sung Tongs and Feels. Still, it's got a new vibe all it's own. I only got to listen once but everything was very immediate. This albums going to be a classic. I can't wait to play it a million times.

Awesome dude, I'm so jealous. What was your favorite track/tracks on the first listen?

Summing The Wretch, Burglars, and Vertical really hit me. I feel like Summing the Wretch is going to be a favorite for lots of people. There was a lot to absorb in just one listen though.

Sweet, yeah, the samples sound great for those ones. Are there a lot of dynamics and changes in most of the tracks?

Yeah for sure. I haven't listened to the samples but I imagine they can't even come close to giving a full image of the crazy places all these songs go. Lots of dynamic shifts/ change ups. So many sweet vocal melodies, so much vocal interplay.

This is awesome! Happy you got to hear it and really enjoyed it. . What kind of feelings did the record give you? I get that each album explores a diversity of feelings, and each record might "hit" each of us as unique individuals in subjectively different ways, but are there things that you think people might clearly experience with this album? like, Feels is pretty high on the "love" feeling and merriweather is "lagoony"; I love the "playful" characteristic you described, that comes across on the single and the samples. But i dunno, what was your experience?

underwater exploration. like an underwater mario level.

I remember thinking it was another worthy edition to their long history of ending their albums with a standout track.

ok if they're giving advanced copies to people who are just dudes/bros with the band, then that means they want/are okay with/are encouraging a freebird. come on people. albion thanks for the info but give yr friend a sensible, cogent talking to and then devise a way of freebirding it in a way that may or may not incriminate him because if he's not press than it won't even matter.

I totally agree with you. ..
"that ain't no joke" ..Fuck out here. I'm pretty sure if we have accounts here, we are all loyal AC fans that will still be buying their album. ... I know I already preordered mine. Wtf differences does it? I want it to freebird because I wanna fcking hear it already!!
Diomedes, I'm so glad we'll on the same page.

i def agree but not meaning to derail over that or anything.

Sweet new p4k interview. some new tidbits... i'm really really stoked that it sounds like there's a few 'topical' things in the lyrics. that's a super interesting turn for them to make... hinted at environmental stuff in Monkey Riches I guess(?) but this sounds even more direct.

Yea the topical aspect to the lyrics is really exciting especially for Bagels in Kiev. I wonder if any of the guys in the band have Ukranian or Russian heritage

That's sweet information Albion. Has me psyched.

Personally I would've stabbed my friend in the back and had a phone recording on me the whole time it played. Pocket FLACs

Oh shit, wasn't expecting that opening paragraph. Love me some dinosaurs. Ankylosaurus is a great choice, classic Avey. Love Parasaurolophus as well. Noah not answering is a real shame. Would've loved to know Deak's

Great to see them taking my CHz criticisms on the chin. That separate monitor point is a great bit of info and explains a lot! Maybe that's why the most successful songs are the more stripped down ones or those which weren't played live first.

ya it is kind of interesting to see that they might be a bit regretful about the final mixing, tho that might be a stretch. but sounds like they also weren't way into meeting up bak in b-more or something. idk, still think that album is perfect tho. but am i super stoked about a more spacey breathe-able stereo field/mix on PW, hell ya

Sorry folks, I don't think he would be down/ I wouldn't want to push him to freebird it. If i was trusted enough by the band to get an advanced copy I wouldn't want to screw that up. Plus, its not that far off now anyways. Im going to just sit back and wait. :smoking:

I only recall reading in an interview that him and Brian are partly Jewish. But listening to the lyrics it now sounds like it's a song about Avey trying to relate to his grandfather who seems to be a Ukranian Jew

i'm with you, man, haven't heard a second. (save for a few mistaken seconds of listening to a bathroom flac). but there's so much music out there to keep me distracted until the time comes... then it's all PW AC for a loooong time.

I mean if you're the first day of the tour that does sound like an interesting idea. But a big part of this record seems to be about the band presenting the album before they tour. So it seems weird that you would go out of your way to deny yourself the intended experience.
